Search for all references to the Exodus

I’ve been looking around the support pages, Camp Logos alumni pages, Camp Logos syllabus, and my 3-volume Camp Logos Training Manuals, but I can’t seem to find what I am looking for.

I am starting a series on Sunday in Exodus. I want to find out how many times the Exodus is mentioned in the Bible.

My search options seem to be limited to components within the Exodus experience (Moses instructing Israel about the firstborn, crossing the red sea, provision of manna, the Israelites make a golden calf, etc.).

I am looking for a way to find out the total number of times general references (“out of Egypt," “I brought Israel up from Egypt,” “Moses led us out of the land of Egypt,” etc.) are made.

Can this be done, and if so, how can it be done?

Thank you!

Dan

I am not certain I have fully answered your question, but I can make a start following this path.

First, I identified a target Scripture using Fuzzy Search on "I brought you out of Egypt." This identified 1Sam 10.18. I then ran Passage Guide on this scripture looking at Cross References and found Ex 20.2.

I next identified the tagging on this Scripture, noting the entry "Israelite (Exodus)" Addressee. I ran a search this resource.

I then combined the search phrase "brought you out" with the previously shown search using the operator INTERSECTS.

Incidentally, I identified Acts 7.40 with a Fuzzy Search on your phrase "Moses led us out." The tagging was not helpful in extending the search. It's a start.

Use the Factbook and Bible Sense Lexicon.

For some broader "Exodus themes", search for "new exodus" and "exodus motiv".

For New Testament use of Old, can search Intertext labels for Exodus:

Right click on Egypt in 1 Samuel 10:18 included Place, which can be searched:

    <Place Egypt (nation)>

    Place Search can be refined:

(from OR out OR leave OR left) BEFORE 4 WORDS <Place Egypt (nation)>

(from OR out OR leave OR left) BEFORE 4 WORDS <Place Egypt (nation)> WITHIN 7 WORDS <Person Israelites>

Agree with add Bible Sense Lexicon <Sense to bring> extends search considerably. See where Factbook shows on Israelites (the Exodus) heading As Theme finds 167 verses. Don't understand how you arrived at search terms "new exodus" and "exodus motive." Please explain.

This way you can search for the Exodus theme in your Bible and commentaries. Not only for the Exodus as a "historical fact".

Dr. Lloyd, were you able to find the full count? I have been trying to do this with no luck. If you found it… please let me know how 🙏

Welcome to the forums. By resurrecting a 7-year-old thread you risk the forumites involved in this thread may no longer be active participants. Are you looking only for direct mention or do you also want allusions? Do you want only references to the main event or do you also want mention of individual events within it?
