Is there a way to save the backgrounds etc of a song that I have created? I might find a nice background for a particular song but next time I open the song it is all gone except for the lyrics.

I hope you are enjoying using Proclaim - most of us users are pretty enthusiastic about it.
I think the trick here is to use the Reuse Items feature.
As you can see using this option gives me a selection of the various ways that I have used this doxology even down to some having background audio and some not. Although the audio tag is not immediately obvious.
Just to further enhance what Mike has already said, if there are songs you use often, you might want to create a service named "Saved Songs" or something similar and put all your formatted songs in there. That way all you need to do is use the "Reuse Item" like Mike describes. As long as you don't mess with the item in the "Saved Songs" service, it will be the same every time you load it.
