Homily starter
I recall hearing about some type of book that can help with stories to use to start a homily with... the problem is, I don't recall what I was told these were called. Would anyone know? Possibly "sketches", or "Illustrations"... can someone point me in the right direction.
Thank you,
John

What is "Thankful"? you have completely lost me. I am new to Verbum so I apologize for all the questions.

[:$] My apologies. My desire is to be helpful so appreciate feedback about me missing the mark.
FYI: Faithlife has over 100,000 resources that can be used in Verbum, which has many books with stories to start a homily.
Searching Verbum.com for anecdote finds less than 30 results:
https://verbum.com/search?context=product&query=anecdote&sortBy=relevance&limit=30&page=1&view=list
Searching Logos.com for anecdote finds 217 results:
https://www.logos.com/products/search?q=anecdote&start=0&sort=rel&pageSize=60
Searching Vyrso.com for anecdote finds 167 results:
https://vyrso.com/products/search?q=anecdote&start=0&sort=rel&pageSize=60
Verbum.com, Logos.com, and Vyrso.com use your Faithlife account for login (same as Verbum application). Also, resources purchased at Logos.com and Vyrso.com are usable in Verbum.

Recommend two free Mobile Education courses: (videos have transcription so you can choose video and/or reading as desired)
LT270: Study the Bible with Logos: Jonah 1:1–16 has ten video lessons using Logos, which also work in Verbum
LT271: Study the Bible with Logos: Jonah 1 has 30 video lessons using Logos, which also work in Verbum
FYI: Verbum and Logos have many common features. Verbum has some differences: e.g. canonical Bible Books, Home Page options, three pre-defined collections (Catechism, Church Documents, Church Fathers), Catholic Topical Index (for Guides).
Both LT270 and LT271 have library organization discussions, which include collections. Logos wiki has => Getting Started with Logos that includes Collections link.
Faithlife also offers Verbum training => https://verbum.com/search?query=verbum+training

Please keep asking questions.
Thankful for many forum discussions: have learned a lot plus have a lot to learn. Forum etiquette is each thread having its own question/focus.
Logos and Verbum have many features and capabilities so becoming proficient takes awhile, which can have many questions.

Verbum handles sermons only by scriptural reference or topic - not a lectionary set. However, three sections of the Sermon Guide contain some of the information you want. Sermons/Sermon Outlines may contain illustrations. The Illustrations section specifically contains what you are looking for.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

when I do a guide on the same passage that you have, I only show 2 sermons by John Chrysostom, and no illustration. Why am I not seeing what you are?
Sermon Starter Guide (SSG) results depend on resources in your library.
For example, Homily VI by John Chrsostom on Philippians 2:5-8 is in three resources in my library:
Early Church Fathers Protestant Edition contains additional front matter written at a later date compared to the Catholic Edition
Thankful for Faithlife offering both sets for $ 0.00
Collected Homilies of St. John Chrysostom is included in several Library packages: e.g. Verbum Diamond with verse references having * indicator (compared to Early Church Fathers having reference in the text).
FYI: personally have added prefixes to my commentary titles => https://community.logos.com/forums/p/139386/890581.aspx#890581
Comparing SSG screen shots with MJ shows my library also has resources with sermons by D.A. Carson, David Platt, and John F. MacArthur. Note: looking forward to more sermons appearing in SSG as Faithlife labels more resources, which enables SSG (and search) to find them in your library.
For Illustrations, my library has the same Angels resources as MJ:
1,500 Illustrations for Biblical Preaching by Michael P Green with 2005 publication date
Illustrations for Biblical Preaching by Michael P Green with 1989 publication date
The Michael P Green resources have considerable overlap and are included in a variety of Library packages.
Searching Logos.com for illustrations => https://www.logos.com/products/search?q=illustrations&start=0&sort=rel&pageSize=60 also finds:
Encyclopedia of 7,700 Illustrations is included in Lutheran Portfolio
Nelson's Complete Book of Stories, Illustrations & Quotes is included in Preacher’s Essential Bible Study Library $ 39.99 (with more resources that have homily starter material)
