Learned something new about quoting posts on the Forum!

If I wanted to quote just a portion of someone else's post that I'm replying to, I used to click the Quote button and then edit out the parts I didn't want to keep.
But I just accidentally stumbled upon a quicker way: Select the part of the post that I do want to quote, and then click the Quote button. Only that text will be quoted. Cool! Saves me a bunch of time. Hope it will help you too.

Rosie,
I am terribly sorry I did not realize you were still in the dark ages of forum quoting [:)]
This is a time saver. The only thing I find once in a while .... My single line highlighting to quote will not stay selected. It just seems like I have to highlight things multiple times to keep it highlighted. I am probably just trying to go to fast.

I was thinking that, but I didn't want to brag. [:D] I was actually surprised that there was something Rosie did not know. [8-|]

At the opposite end of the spectrum from Rosie comes a question: Wheres the 'quote' button?

Valerie
At the moment as I reply to your post it is the word Quote in blue against the grey background containing you post I shall hit it now
Valerie Pobog said:At the opposite end of the spectrum from Rosie comes a question: Wheres the 'quote' button?
and your post is inserted inmy reply.
If I select text in your post
and hit the button, then only the selected text is quoted. It's really very handy.Valerie Pobog said:Wheres the 'quote' button?

Todd,
Thanks for doing the illustration for Valerie.
I wasn't able to do a partial screen capture, because I only know how to do that on my iMac and have never figured out how to do it on my WIndows XP Tablet. (If it can do it.) And I'm on holiday with only my venerable, trusty Toshiba Tablet M200.

You've heard that expression, "Rosie has forgotten more about posting than you will ever know!" ?
Seems there is a basis for it. [:D]

Can somebody re-teach me how to quote two different posts in one answer? I did it once but forgot how.
ie:
Rosie "quote"
my comment
Dan "quote"

I don't know the "official" way but I open the thread in two tabs and then "reply" on each, selecting the quote I want and Quoting it. I do the same the other tab. and then cut and paste, so both quotes are on one tab, then I delete the empty reply and post the completed one, like this:
Rosie Perera said:Select the part of the post that I do want to quote, and then click the Quote button. Only that text will be quoted.
This is my comment. I knew that!

BTW if someone has a neater way of doing it I would be grateful.

Cool. I know that wasn't the way I did it, however I didit. But it's good enough for the few times I will need to.
While we're at it: How do I add a "signature" line at the bottom of my posts. (Forgot that one too.)
And my forum "Profile " won't update either. I'm just falling down on the job here.

That's how I do it too, so I hereby name it the "official" way. (After all the fawning over my knowledge up above, I could hardly reply any other way... [;)] )

When logged in to the forums, in the upper right, beside your name, click Edit. Then on the "Edit Your Profile" page, click Site Options. You'll find the place to add your Signature down below the initial Site Options section. After adding it, scroll to the very bottom of the page and click Save.

It's non-intuitive. We've all had problems with it. Follow the instructions at http://wiki.logos.com/Changing_Forum_Display_Name and that should do the trick.

I use a Firefox addon called "make links" I've set it up with a pattern that does the following:Alan Macgregor said:BTW if someone has a neater way of doing it I would be grateful.
When I select text and right click make links, it first asks me for the username which I type in. Then it inserts the selected text and finally asks me for my comments.
All of that is then pasted to the clipboard and I paste it in a quick reply.

I was able to add/subtract the signature line. The Avatar is not budging. I remember linking off-site to my registered avatar but don't see how to unlink or replace it on the Logos profile page. I was able to upload a new profile pic but it does not replace the avatar pic. Any suggestions?

After uploading your new pic you have to come back to the forum website and click save on your profile. Very non-intuitive, as Rosie said.
