I really don't use the term Pastor for ministers/evangelists, but hey, that's what people call it this month.

We have "holidays" for <seemingly> everything. Every day is something new, which sometimes feels like it diminishes other important days. October is recognized in many churches as "pastor appreciation month." This isn't new... I remember recognizing this more than 20 years ago. I don't know why October was chosen, but perhaps because of Luther.

Yes holidays for everything, including "shower with a friend day."

Thanks Alabama24, DAL and Michael S for your comments. I guess it provides some opportunity for people to make a gesture of appreciation for the work their pastor does, which is fair enough. It seems common knowledge that many pastors are not paid much for their services by their churches - and if that's so, rather than buying them a book they might not need - why don't church congregations consider giving them an annual bonus or increase in salary during this month?
