Importing media into Proclaim

I though that when I used to use the Media -> "Import Media" option that the imported media was applied to the content slide currently in focus as well as being added to the list of media. 

Now it is simply added to the set of media files and I need to apply it to the content item.

Am I misremembering how it worked or has this functionality changed recently?

I think you are mixing up the "Media > Import Media" and the "Background > Import" functions.
