Search within a search?

I wanted to find out how many commentators on Ecclesiastics 11:5 (in my library) has a referral to John 3:8 (scripture link).

After doing a Passage Search on Eccl. 11:5 I got 81 results. Then I had to open them, one-by-one, an manually check if they refer to John 3:8. Very time consuming!

Then it hit me: How about a search (John 3:8) within a search (Eccl. 11:5)?

Is that possible?

Maybe a Command? Or an option in Passage Search?

You can do this by using a Milestone search: <jn 3:8> WITHIN {Milestone <Ec 11:5>}

This constrains the search to commentaries
This specifies a reference to John 3:8 - however it is actually represented in the commentary
This specifies that you want the search to only look at articles within resources that are tagged with that particular verse

The constraining (no. 1) is a bit tricky.

On your screen it says: "All Text", but standard on mine is "Everything". Pulling down the menu didn't show an "All Text" option. So, I tried to type "All Text", and that worked.

Your write: "type:commentary" - what does the "type:" do?
In my library, if I only type "commentary", I get 1.524 resources; but if I type "type:commentary", I get 1.350 resources. Why is there a 174 count difference?

The "All Text" toggle allows you to search for all text in a set of resources - or allow you to search for specific subsets (such as headings) or highlights

The "All Resources" toggle allows you to choose between a range of standard options - such as "All Resources", "Everything", "Factbook" or various subsets of resources as defined in collections.

Entering something like "commentary" into the box provides the ability to provide a "quick collection" based on how resources are identified. It is outlined at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/92688.aspx

"Commentary" returns all resources with the word "commentary" in the title, description or other parts of the metadata while using "type:commentary" returns those resources that are explicitly tagged as commentaries within Logos.
