Slow Logos searches

Hi all, I wonder if any of you clever folk can help out? I am not very techy when it comes to the mechanics of computing but my Logos 7 is runs very slow particularly when I run any kind of search and I am not not sure if it is my hardware or the broadband speed (am i right in thinking that Logos although installed on my machine still requires internet?).

My computer is Dell Optiplex 3010: Processor Intel Core 3.30ghz: 8gb Ram: 500gb Hardrive. 2gb graphics.

Broadband speed is 14mbps

Hi Darren - and welcome to the forums

for most operations Logos doesn’t require Internet access - some features do - but most searches are run locally.

When you say “slow” what sort of things are you doing and how long do they take?

What spec Intel chips do you have - i3/5/7?

Probwbly most significantly - your hard drivel is it a Solid State Disk or a more traditional hard drive? If the latter, do you know it’s spin speed (RPM)?

Tools => Program Settings has default of "Use Internet" set to Yes, which can be changed to No (for offline use after sign-in to Logos plus download of resources and indexing).

My computer is Dell Optiplex 3010: Processor Intel Core 3.30ghz: 8gb Ram: 500gb Hardrive. 2gb graphics.

Recommend changing primary boot device to Solid State Disk (SSD), which will noticeably speed up Windows and Logos. Existing 500 GB hard drive could become a backup device for SSD stuff plus secondary storage. For SSD, suggest 500 MB per second or faster write speed.

Which CPU model ? Geekbench single core benchmarks => https://browser.geekbench.com/processor-benchmarks shows the fastest 3.3 GHz Intel Core is model i9-7900x with benchmark of 5390 that is 260 % faster than 2072 for the slowest 3.3 GHz Intel Duo Core 2 E8600.

Geekbench single core benchmark for an Intel Core i3-3220 is 2977 (faster than some earlier generation i7's)

The CPU is an Intel i3 and I only have a traditional hard drive not an SSD. Looking at your comments I am thing that it might be worth looking at getting an SSD.

SATA III SSD with 500 MB/sec write speed can be more than six (6) times faster than a spinning hard disk. So disk access that takes 60 seconds for hard drive can be done in less than 10 seconds by SSD.

FYI: newer computers can use PCIe OR NVMe SSD that is noticeably faster than SATA III SSD (so same storage task can be done in less than 3 seconds).
