Highlights are visible in some notes, but not all?

Here is a note I created called, "Questions". I use the purple foreground to highlight words and phrases I'd like to come back to and research more. I am confused about why some of those purple highlights show in the note itself, and sometimes the words appear all black in the notes, and the highlight is not visible. I don't see any setting differences between the notes that are appearing differently.

It's slightly difficult to tell from the sample shown but some thoughts:

I am confused about why some of those purple highlights show in the note itself

This suggests that you copied the text into the notes document (unless you are using the beta version of the new web app tool. That might have an impact on this - please advise on whether you are using this or not). Is that possible?

and sometimes the words appear all black in the notes

The fact that some of the text in the notesfile is purple and some is black suggests that you have changed the colours of the text in the notesfile. Is this possible?

and the highlight is not visible. I don't see any setting differences between the notes that are appearing differently.

Of the two notes shown that match the biblical text one "Raca; Thou fool" was created as a standalone note and I think the highlight itself is stored in a different notesfile. We should look into this a bit further.

The other one - Mt 5:25 looks to have been created "by reference" and so applies to the entire verse and this doesn't result in a highlight being shown in the text.

Hopefully this will start to clarify things.
