Ignatius Press Theology and Discipleship Collection is almost ready to graduate from pre-publication
There is a collection of books in the pre-pub program right now which I think might be of benefit to Logos users in general, and Catholic/Verbum users in particular. Ignatius Press has assembled a group of books by Archbishop Fulton Sheen, Frank J. Sheed, Aidan Nichols, Erasmus Leiva-Merikakis, Mark Shea, and Cardinal Schonborn. You can check out the product page to read endorsements of the books from folks like Scott Hahn and Peter Kreeft. Here are a few of my own thought, for what it's worth:
-I've watched some of Fulton Sheen's television talks via YouTube, and from those sermons and his seemingly universal approbation, I am interested to read his book on the ministerial Priesthood.
-I have Erasmus Leiva-Merikakis' incredible commentary on St. Matthew's Gospel, Fire of Mercy, Heart of the Word, consider it one of my most favorite resource in Logos, and think that Leiva-Merikakis' blend of spirituality, linguistic prowess, orthodoxy, beautiful -- almost mystical -- imaginings and fleshing out of the Gospel scenes have a way of helping me gain new understandings of every passage that I happen to study, and leave me with lasting remembrances and frameworks for understanding and operating in the world. This collection includes his explorations of six Gospel scenes in the book The Way of the Disciple.
-Frank J. Sheed wrote a translation of Augustine's Confessions which is highly recommended by Peter Kreeft, and which I have read, finding it just beautiful. I came away from Sheed's translation humbled by/in awe of Augustine's incredible mind, and proud to be part of the same Church which counts St. Augustine as one of its Doctors. Sheed contributes a pair of books to this collection, and I am excited to check them out, if not from my previous experience with his writing skills, then from the aforementioned endorsements on the Logos pre-pub product page.
-Mark P. Shea is an apologist and author, and I have read his Making Senses of Scripture in Verbum. His spiritual journey and conversion to Catholicism are the subject of his book in this collection.
I have only read Schonborn as a result of doing research or topical studies in Verbum, and I don't know that I have sat down and read any of his books cover to cover. I have read the CCC cover to cover though, and I know that Schonborn was involved in its creation.
