Verbum 8 - How Can I Select a Different Date From the Homepage?
From the Verbum 7 homepage, I would click on "Today" to get a calendar. From there I could select another date to launch into the Liturgical Layout, I'm not seeing how to do that in Verbum 8. When I click "Today" I go straight to the layout for today.

Not exactly. Yes, I can type a different date in that box, but it does not reset all the other resources in the Liturgical Layout accordingly. Those other resources remain on the date when the layout was first opened. For example, change the Daily Readings to October 31, 2018 and click on the Lectionary (two tabs to the right) and it's still on Monday.
The beauty of the way it worked before is that you could see a calendar drop-down, one click on the desired date, and launch into the layout for that date.

Deacon Steve,
Talked to some folks here, and we are aware of the issue. The calendar drop-down you describe is something that we hope to bring back to the lectionary card on the homepage, but it's unfortunately not available at launch. A less elegant work-around you can do is to change the day once you've opened the lectionary, then click on the day's reading, which should update the rest of the page.

The Lectionary, Saints, and Daily Devotional cards problems with how they process dates and multiple entries on a date. When the forums slow down a bit, I will post a BUG report so you can see what has been reported.

OK. Well ... changing the date on the Daily Readings did not result in any other changes in resources in the Layout. Neither does changing the Lectionary to the corresponding date. The drop-down calendar was just my visual que that something was not the way it used to be. Everything in the Liturgical Layout was tied to that date so when you changed the date all resources changed position - Missal, Bible, Commentary, Cited By, Explorer.
None of that is happening now whether you change the Daily Readings or the Lectionary. There seems to be a disconnect here that is kind of a central piece of functionality from my point of view.

When I change the date on my lectionary (see first screenshot), the rest of the resources do not change, as you note.
But when I click on the new reading (Galatians 3:17-14 in this case), the rest of the resources change to correspond with it.
This isn't as elegant as everything switching over simultaneously, but it is a manual work-around as we work on the issue.

I agree completely ... the problems with this first release affects Verbum users far more severely than Logos users. But it is my experience that this type of error in the reiterative development model is usually "ran out of time". Given the effectiveness of the 6 week cycle in L7, I'm willing to be patient ... and only mildly annoyed ... at this time.

Hi Deacon Steve,
First of all, let me say I totally agree with you - the calendar drop-down on the Lectionary card on the homepage is absolutely necessary! I really miss it.
That being said, there is a workaround that will allow you to change the date on the Lectionary, Missal, etc., all at the same time. Just set the Catholic Daily Readings, Lectionary, and Missal all to link set B. Then go to the Layouts menu in the top-right, hover over the Lectionary layout, and choose "Replace with current layout" from the dropdown.
Now when you open up the Lectionary card, your Daily Readings, Missal, and Lectionary will all navigate together. (I've found that sometimes if the location bar is set to a secular date, such as "November 3, 2018", the link set navigation won't work properly. But if I click inside the location box, and select the liturgical date from the dropdown, such as "Ord Time 30 Sat 2", then it works quite reliably… unfortunately the homepage card opens the Liturgy layout to the secular calendar date, so this solution isn't ideal for the moment… [:(], but it does work if you manually change the date in the location bar from the secular to the liturgical date).
Note that you may run into a bug I've seen when doing this... when you load your newly saved Liturgy layout, only the first Bible will be in link set A, whereas all 5 Bibles should be in link set A. The good news is you can simply set them all to link set A, then go up to the Layouts menu, and replace the Lectionary layout a second time. This time it will all stick.
Hope this helps! And hope that we can soon see a calendar drop down on the homepage!

Hello all. Thanks for sharing your feedback about Lectionary card.
When we set out to design the new Homepage, one of our guiding principles is that the Homepage is not a place to *get work done*, but a place to launch you in to the work.
We removed the date picker functionality as a result of that guiding principle.
We've heard loud and clear that the date picker functionality is really important to many people who are part of a liturgical tradition.
We're going to bring the date picker functionality back to this card as soon as we can. I'm working with our design team on how we'll do that. We'll get it prioritized and will start work on it. When we have a date for it's release, the Verbum team will announce.
I hope that in the meantime I hope you enjoy some of the great tools and content we launched with 8.
Cheers,

Could you all please try to fix this? We've invested a lot of money in this software and the utility of Verbum 8 went backwards instead of forwards in a major way because of the removal of that little calendar widget. In order to "launch oneself into work," I want to select the exact day I am preparing my homily for.

Hello Father,
We haven't forgotten about this and we are going to reinstate the date picker/calendar feature! It's taking us a little longer than expected to work out a viable solution. We hope to announce something concrete soon!
