Dishonest Advertising $100 off Logos 8 upgrade + Free Logos 7 Fundamentals

Very disappointing misinformation, in fact there is no $100 off Logos 8, rather they assign a value of the gift as $100. I have this kind of dishonest approach to business in a Christian company. Add clear says $100 off the Logos 8 plus a Logos 7 fundamentals. Whatever happened to honoring prices when a mistake is made. Other business are forced to sell ar advertised prices. For example airlines. Just terrible, just keep wondering why I should make any more investment in your product.

I just anonymously checked the Logos 8 product pages and the prices are additionally discounted by $100 for new customers.

This $100 savings would only appear for a new customer. If someone browses the site as an existing customer, they won't see the price discounted by $100.

If your experience is different, would you please provide more details as to the $100 discount not appearing?

That is a legitimate (and generous) offer. Clicking through the ad shows the "first-time Logos purchasers only" fine print.

Don't know about dishonest. But Logos, in classic fashion, demands you read the right communication. The forum post makes no mention of a new customer. Existing Logos: tough cookies. Try 2020.

And indeed my post demanding a minimum $1,000 credit is meaningless, but Kaleb nicely apologized (vs corrected me). Which I don't mind.

I don't see a problem with new customers getting a chance this time of the year to save even more on their first purchase (especially considering that we all had an opportunity to get some promotional deal at the time of our first purchase).

We had/have our chance to save even more on our first upgrade. Why shouldn't new customers should get a chance this time of the year to save even more on their first purchase?

Besides, we all had an opportunity (back when we made our first Logos package purchase) to get some promotional deal at the time. We should be thankful for what we had received, and be happy that new customers get to save, just as we had the chance to save.

Petah, I'm not complaining. As already stated, they need a cool $1,000 credit before I destroy my study environment.

'First time', I thought first L8 package. I didn't think about the package I bought in mid-2005 (the only other package I might have). Crazy me.

Tough cookies, as per crazy me ... see what the offer is in 2020.

But as per our discussion, I'm clueless as to what they actually meant (in the forum post). Maybe it's a first L8 package? Or, maybe not.

Offers come and go. Some are better than others. And I'd agree that some might not be a good deal, if they'd throw a wrench into how we're accustomed to working. Change can be problematic (especially if it's not better).

I don't think you're crazy. I think you have a lot to contribute, although it can be difficult for me to understand what you're talking about, mostly because you're intelligent, knowledgeable, and talk about things that I'm not familiar with.

P.S. I have a difficult time picturing you as clueless.

I seriously doubt there's any dishonesty either, but I do think one thing is clear: FL's marketing folks can be loose cannons at times and at other times seem to outstrip the programmers by a few miles. That's an opinion from 10+ years of reading the ads.

In other words, good folks who sometimes write verbal checks the coders can't cash...

I got a direct $100 discount off my purchase like a coupon. If you already purchased a Logos 8 upgrade before the promotion you will get a code for $100 off a future purchase. I don't understand what the concern is. There don't appear to be any gimmicks or even fine print here.

Just to clarify, mine did not click through to a new customers only message. The info I posted was what I was told when I called customer service when the promised discount did not appear in the cart. They did not promise any future coupons. The result is, as some said, existing customers, though luck.

I think you’re right, and first time package purchaser would be the only incentive that makes financial sense for FL.

A first-time customer could have bought a resource for $0.99. A first-time L8 purchaser could have purchased a dynamically priced L8 package for $10. FL wouldn’t be sending them $100.

On my Logos 7 home page, this ad has appeared. I clicked through and found no $100 saving. The parts I highlighted show a promise of an extra $100 discount (not a voucher) in return for an upgrade.

What am I missing?

I don’t think it was dishonest. I do think it was confusing. When I first saw it, I thought I’d be receiving a coupon for next year because I purchased Verbum Silver 8. Following another thread on the subject, I eventually realized it was only for first time purchases of Logos/Verbum.

While a bit disappointed I won’t score free swag out of it, I understand that this was just a case of ambiguous phrasing

The message I received was not ambiguous or confusing. It was an offer of $100 off on top of the upgrade discount. However, there is a big difference between dishonest advertising and erroneous advertising. It was effective marketing because it made me reconsider my decision not to upgrade - just the marketer had not understood the nuances of the offer. An honest mistake.

When I contacted a sales rep, he was very good. He admitted they made a mistake, checked, and then offered me the $100 off anyway. This is another example of Logos treating a customer well when they made a mistake. Other companies would not have been as generous.

I got $100.00 off when I went to Logos 8. The discounts keep coming. I went on the Standard Platinum Library. Got email yesterday where I can get a friend Logos 7 Fundamental for free. Go Logos! I can't understand why people complain about Logos. They have always been good to me. I now have 7,048 resources. Each resource only cost $1.31. At that price Logos is not making no money, they can't. I see some of the books that I have in my Logos library go for $100.00 each on Amazon. $1.31 for a $100.00 book is a great discount. Plus it's digital. Hard cover books are thing of the past. Can you imagine how much shelf space would be need for 7,048 books. If a book takes up 1 inch then I could get 12 books per foot. 7,048/12=587 foot to hold the books. On a 12 foot wall with 8 shelves 12x8=96 books per wall. 7,048/96=73 walls. Need 73 - 12 foot walls to put 7,048 books on. Also Logos lets me pay off my books. Who else give $9,000.00 credit no questions asked. Thank God for Logos!

After watching them for 13 years and 5 'upgrades', I don't think their habits are accidental. Accordance pulls it off. Bibleworks did. And even Olivetree inside a very secular corporation. I used the OPs title word at L4 in discussion with Bob. Haven't changed my mind.

On this point I agree with Denise... frightening thought for both of us I am sure [:O]... FL has tendencies to Ready... Shoot... Aim...aim...aim... with their marketing communications. They do eventually hit the target, just not always on the first try. Still love FL and their team though.

You fared better than I did. When I contacted the sales rep I was told that the $100.00 was only for first-time buyers. And yes, he noted that the ad was not clear or complete. Congrats on getting the extra discount.

It looks like we've had a mixed bag of replies, but count me among those who felt misled. The ad on my home page (multiple times) didn't say it was only for first time purchases, and I clicked the link several times on different days and didn't see fine print; I just couldn't find a way to add the package to my cart and save the extra $100.
