Country Restrictions on ebooks

So I am a big fan of the That the World May Know series of videos & have purchased 8 of the 15 books previously when finances have permitted but as I was going to purchase more of the series yesterday I see this

"Unable to distribute Israel's Mission Discovery Guide: A Kingdom of Priests in a Prodigal World to your country."

I'm assuming this boils down to a licensing issue & not being able to distribute outside the US anymore (I'm in Australia)?

So my next question is, I am in the US at the end of the year so would I be able to purchase them then or is the restriction based on where my account is located?

Quite disappointed there's a chance I can't complete the set now

Kind Regards

Typically the restriction is linked to where your account is located.

Thanks for the reply Graham. I was kinda hoping that when I'm in the USA I could but them then since I'd be in the country where it would be distributed. A bit like buying a physical book not available here but taking back home on the plane with me.

Can anyone from faithlife confirm please?

I think the only way is to get a US registered credit card. I think this is possible with a prepaid card. Others will know better.

I'm not from FL, but what Graham wrote is correct. Country restrictions are address-based, not based on where you log in from.

I don't know if it would be possible for a friend/family member of yours living in the USA to buy location-restricted titles for your account. I know that it is possible, by contacting FL customer service, for people to buy items for other people, generally speaking.

I'm not from Faithlife either, but I can confirm. I live in Canada but I'm originally from the US and I travel back there a lot, but I cannot buy country restricted books when I'm in the US.

That is different from how Netflix operates, where you can watch US-only movies while you're in the US if you're from another country. Your international login credentials will work to log in to the US Netflix site. So that might lead one to suspect this sort of regional thing should work for Logos books too. But alas, it doesn't.

Also, Amazon has set things up for Canadian users that if you want to buy a Kindle book that is restricted to US only, you can temporarily change your account to a US account (even if you don't have a US address) and buy that Kindle book, and then it will keep working in your Kindle app when you switch your account back to Amazon dot ca. As far as I can tell, there's an unlimited number of times you can do this switch back and forth. I've done it half a dozen or so.

It would be great if Faithlife could work out a deal like that which Amazon does, but I suspect that Amazon has more clout with the publishers and Faithlife would be hard put to get a similar arrangement approved.

Not sure if this is possible, but could you change your account address to the US address where you are visiting and then change it back when you return home? That would be a hassle and possibly unethical, but it might work.
