Problems with Digital Signage
I am using a Fire TV stick - purchased last week - to send digital signage to a television using the Proclaim Sign app. I have a strong wifi connection with no filtering or blocking of ads. I have two problems.
1) Most videos don't load at all. Still frames do fine, but I get an error saying "The Media Could Not be Loaded, Either Because the Server or Network Failed or Because the Format is Not Supported."
2) The videos that do load only do so in a broken way. A portion of a still frame from the video fills the bottom right 1/4 of the screen.
The test stream I am using can be found here: https://faithlife.com/grand-ledge-church-of-the-nazarene-presentation/signs/main

Another error message: A network error caused the media download to fail part-way.
To rule out my network, I connected it to my phone's hotspot. The connection speed is currently 50mbps. I'm still getting all three of these errors. I have tested two kindle fires and two TVs.0 -
Hello Nick, I'm able to reproduce the issues you're describing. They seem to be specific to the Fire TV app as I'm able to view the videos in the web browser just fine. Will report back here after our investigation. Thanks for reporting!

Thank you, Scott. I am curious if you're using a browser on the fire or just a computer. On a computer, it works fine for me. On a fire, it reduces the videos to random still images (the same image on loops, randomly selected from the video file).

I'm using Chrome on a desktop computer.
The Fire TV app is using the built-in browser (Silk) to display the same page. It does appear to be having issues with all videos. Still investigating...
One known issue - motion backgrounds (Video media used in non Video service Items) will not animate. They just display the first video frame.

Just wondering - how is progress on this coming along? We're at the end of our 30 day trial and have every expecting of purchasing by the year, but the digital signage was a major sell point for us. I already bought new TV's and fire sticks.

I was able to confirm the issue with videos on the Fire TV stick. The issue can also be reproduced by playing the sign feed directly in the Silk browser application on the device. I'm hoping it's just a codec issue that we can work around by making different format available but I haven't had a chance to look further. Sorry for the delay, it's on our short list, hoping to have an answer sometime next week.

Hi Scott -
I don't mean to put a big push on this, but it has been two weeks since we talked about this. I just wanted to check to status.
Thanks!
Nick

Hi Nick, we've just gotten back to signage yesterday. We're starting with integrating a crash reporting tool for the Fire TV app. Next up, we'll investigate the video issue. Thanks for your patience!

Digital signage was also a very special feature to us. Instead of fire sticks, I went with an Intel Stick Computer available from Amazon and a wireless keyboard (Logitech KB400). Videos continue to be a big problem with digital signage feed. (I'm not pleased with the way On Air takes precedence over the normal feed then WON'T support video backgrounds or Bible Trivia)
I'm just adding my experience for you to consider our $150 solution.

I just wanted to report that our video improvements have shipped! Now when you add a video, we transcode it to a format the will work on most browsers, this includes Chrome, Firefox, Safari and mobile safari on iOS devices and most importantly FireTV!.
I went ahead and checked out your sign feed, but I see your video still doesnt play, and that is due to it being set as a 'background' of a content item, instead of as its own top-level video item. Currently, we are only supporting Video items so you will want to change that to see it play. Plus, a video item automatically displays for the length of the video, where as a background ignores the length of the video as its not really intended to be 'watched'.

im just jumpimg in here, but do you know if there are plans for Digital Signage on the Fire Stick to support video backgrounds in the near future?

Hello David,
We don't have any immediate plans, however we are always looking to improve the abilities of our products, and this is something we would like to see. We did recently increase our support for user uploaded videos in the sign feed, however motion backgrounds will involve some work so it may be a little ways off, but definitely something we would like to do!

To bring an old thread back to life, I am having all sorts of issues with video playback through my sign feeds. It doesn't seem to matter what format the video is or what device I'm using to show the feed, videos simply will not play. The video will not even play when I preview the sign feed within Proclaim. This is a serious limitation that will move us to use a different signage software and potentially move us away from Proclaim altogether. Can anyone advise as to what the issue may be and if there is a solution?
