Prepub notifications vs. monthly budgeting
Hi Catholic forum,
Our household, like many (I presume), uses a budget based on monthly cycles. January 2019 has been a pretty busy month for pre-publication titles on my account, and I would like to talk about a couple of scenarios which have taken place:
Prepub (PP) title one:
Ignatius Press Theology/Discipleship collection; 79.99 PP/99.99 reg. pricing; go-live notification received 12/27/2018, ship date 1/10/2019
We heard about this one in December, added it to the Jan 2019 budget, and happily added the resources to the library.
Henri De Lubac collection; 49.99 PP/64.99 reg. pricing; go-live notification received 1/11/2019, ship date 1/25/2019
We had a dryer outage and other various homeowner type things occur this month, and I really couldn't see a way to fit this PP selection into the budget in mid cycle. I emailed FL support to let them know that, unfortunately, I needed to cancel the PP. Please note that I have cancelled -- I'm guessing -- fewer than a half dozen PP orders over all the years I've been participating in the program. The number may be closer to half that.
What Are They Saying About... series; 139.95 PP/179.95 reg. pricing; go-live notification received 1/18/2019, ship date 1/30/2019
I'm not sure how to handle this one. In order to add this one to the library, we're probably going to veer into "robbing Peter to pay Paul" territory. I'm interested in a number of titles in this series, and the value of having them in Logos all linked up, tagged, and searchable/citable, etc. seems like a perfect example of how having a book in Logos can be way better than having the same title in print/e-book.
So, to fellow forum readers: how do y'all handle funding on the PP orders? I suppose that the safest, guaranteed method would be to set aside the necessary funds, incl. tax, so that no additional budgeting will be necessary in case of a "late" shipment notification. Is this the default approach, or do others try to just handle it as it comes, like me?
Secondly, is receiving the PP title into your library as rapidly as possible the highest priority? Would it be possible/desirable if FL could try to arrange it so that PP notifications vs. ship dates generally crossed a calendar line from one month to another, to assist with month-based budgeting approaches?
Just curious about how others are handling it,
Brian

Book Cache is a good way of saving up for pre-pubs in advance.
