Does This Mean We Are Losing Our Free Original Starting March 1, 2019?
Oh wow I didn't get that email but it sounds like no free original anymore. Just three free classics
It sure sounds like it. I guess they're planning on replacing the free faithlife original with two extra public domain books and a 25% off coupon if we opt to spend more money on their platform.
It's a shame if that ends up being the case. The faithlife originals, along with the Bible courses, were one of my main reasons to purchase an annual subscription. Now 7 or 8 of the faithlife original resources I was promised might just disappear. Not really what I signed up for (if that's indeed what the email means).
If you don't mind me asking, what Connect plan are you on? I am on the essentials plan. I didn't get the email so I wonder if it is only certain plans?
I have an annual subscription to faithlife essentials and I got the same email.
That's a disappointment. The free monthly book was one of the key added attractions to the Connect programme. Two free eBooks and a 25% discount on high prices don't really make up for that.
I'm on the Essentials tier.
well, the free book was from a very small selection where I tended to own all interesting things and finally settled on a book rather than being really enthusiastic about it. Three free classics is not bad - okay, a 50% coupon on the Lexham titles would be much better than only 25% which I may or may not use in a month.
The problem that I have is that I own literally all the classics to choose from (part from some Spanish and Russian titles), so it is useless to me.
Presumably they cannot make this change during the annual subscription period where you have paid in advance for the benefit without the choice of a pro-rata refund?
I hold an annual subscription and received the same email, which seems to indicate it will apply immediately to all users. It sure looks like they are planning on removing promised benefits to annual subscribers.
I bet if we were to go back and read the terms and conditions they reserve the right to remove benefits we’ve paid for in advance...
The free monthly book was one of the key added attractions to the Connect programme.
I wasn't always finding a book I wanted, so it wasn't as important to me as to you.
Note the additional information:
Additionally, we added more books to your library at the beginning of January, many of which are original content from Faithlife (Faithlife Ebook Originals.)
For me this more than makes up for the loss of one free book a month. I counted 52 new resources added to my Library on January 2. YMMV since I did own a few of the ones downloaded and you may own more or fewer than I do. All 52 have temporary licenses, but I am supposing from the email that we'll have them on a more-or-less permanent basis.

I would much rather continue to gradually build up a library of books I selected and can keep than be given more temporary licenses. In my use-case they are not equivalent and do not make up for the change, though I’m glad your experience won’t be as negatively affected.
So I'm going to go way out on a limb here. The ad says a discount on Lexham books will start March 1. I believe the 2 free books with the FL Connect subscription are on the Faithlife EBooks page, not the Lexham books page. I'm thinking we now get 3 books free from Fl EBooks, and a discount if we purchase a book from Lexham Press.
Maybe the Marketing folks can better explain the change. Just my thoughts.
Hello Everyone,
Thank you for reaching out. We would like to clarify that you are not losing anything from your benefits of Faithlife Connect. As of March 1st, we are adding in new libraries (resources and books) all included in your subscription without you having to redeem anything. As we evaluated the titles that we would include, we realized a significant portion (80%+) would be titles you would normally select from via Originals. We had to change this benefit so that you wouldn't be selecting from titles that are now going to be included in your subscription.
We also wanted to make sure that we keep our promise to offer value, and thus the reason why we are giving you an additional 25% that can be used for 1 time (anything in the cart) EACH MONTH.
Lastly, we are also expanding how many classics you get on a monthly basis as well. As of March 1st, you will be able to redeem 3 Classics from the entire 3,000+ list.
We hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of Faithlife Connect and look forward to continuing to serve you.
Thank you!
Connect Team

Thank you Jake. I'm currently an essentials no library subscriber (old LN now). I didn't get an email about this but it sounds like I'm be losing the free original. Am I correct? Just curious

Hi Jake,
While up until now we could keep the monthly free Faithlife Original books included with our Connect subscription regardless of our subscription status, we now only can access these resources as long as we have a Connect subscription. As I stated above, a temporary license is not equivalent to a free book. In my experience this is a big change not really made up for with a 25% cupon or two extra public domain books. I realize different users will see different value in these changes, but in my case this feels like a definite loss of value, after purchase.
Thank you Jake for the clear answer and update.[:D]
Meanwhile long-time Verbum Now customers continue on with no courses, no FL originals, and only one book per month from a list shorter than the FL Connect Classics list. Could be worse, FL Connect folks.

My thoughts exactly. I'm really disappointed by this change... =\
Yes, I hadn't seen this. That does change things a bit. I have 14 temporary resources that were added on 3 January, all of which are Faithlife titles.
The more I read, the more I am confused...
1. I cannot locate any new resources added to my library on 1 Jan or 2 Jan. The only added item was "The Works of President Edwards Vol 1" on 3 Jan
2. how can I filter or locate any resources in my library that are on temp license only?
3. can someone provide a list (even thoughtit might not be complete) of resources added in beginning of Jan?
Thanks in advance for any your input.

The same for me and I am a Faithlife Connect Essentials - No Library (Formerly Logos Now) subscriber. We’re we not invited to the party?

Type "license:temporary" into the library pane.

I just did, and only found 17 temporary licenses, the majority of which are Catholic resources (from Verbum Basic).
Of the 5 temporary licenses from Lexham Press, two are Bible Study Magazine and two are Lexham Survey of Theology. The fifth was a commentary that I got from signing up for some mailing list promotional offer.
Since I'm also an Essentials (No Library) subscriber, I wonder if I didn't get temporary access to those resources added in the beginning of January.
Perhaps FL could clarify if Essentials (No Library) subscribers are losing a permanent free book benefit, yet not gaining temporary access to any resources from the Faithlife Original catalog.

It looks like I'm in the same position as you have described. Its certainly possible some differentiation of customers based on the type of Faithlife Connect Essentials package they hold may be taking place. However, for myself at least, I'm not too concerned about the temporary licenses as I prefer to seek permanent resources. Still, it would be nice for there to be clarity about these things. Keep well Paul

This may or may not apply to your situation, but for clarification: Just because something was added to your account on 1 or 2 January doesn't mean that you would see this listed on that date. It would be listed on your computer on the date which you downloaded it.
EDIT: The January date by Mark may be misleading. He may have received resources early, or for some other reason. Jake said that these resources would be added on MARCH 1st.

Here's what the email said (my emphasis added).
Ready to build your library? Beginning March 1, 2019, Faithlife Connect Essentials subscribers and above will receive a monthly coupon code for 25% off an order on Lexham Press. This discount will only be valid on a single transaction each month on LexhamPress.com, and includes both print and digital books.Additionally, we added more books to your library at the beginning of January, many of which are original content from Faithlife (Faithlife Ebook Originals.) As of March 1, 2019, Faithlife Connect Essentials subscribers and above can redeem three free ebooks each month, now from the Faithlife classics ebook list.
Mark Barnes said he received these on 3 January.
IF a person already owned a lot of Faithlife resources he/she would not see many or any new resources added. Mark Barnes saw a lot fewer than I did, undoubtedly because he already owned many resources that I didn't.
