How Have You Organized Your Notebooks in Logos 8?

How have you organized you notebook in Logos 8? Screenshots? What is your thinking behind your structure? Phil Gons gave good advice on how to and not to use notebooks.

Right now, I am trying to see if Andy Nasselli's organization would work for me in Logos:

1. My Personal Library.
2. Exegesis and Biblical Theology
3. Historical Theology
4. Other.
5. Practical Theology
6. Systematic Theology

I try to have as few notebooks as possible. I hate that workflows create notebooks so I am trying to figure out what I want to do with those.

Other than that, I have notebooks for classes that I am taking or specific projects that I am working on. I have a "Labels" notebook so I can quickly access/edit those label tags.

I watched MPSeminars webinar last week and he actually suggested making a journal notebook, and a notebook for each book of the Bible. I initially kicked back on the Bible Book idea but he made a good point, sometimes you will have notes about books of the Bible that are not anchored. For that you will either want to tag them, or have a notebook. Just an interesting look on it.

Agreed. My biggest turn off to workflows is the ugly notes that they create. If workflows had it's own tab in the sidebar and they each note was in a workflow-notebook, then I think they would be much more usable. Or, something that would give them better context and organization in notes.

Would you mind sharing what that looks like? Are they like topics or just anything?

Also fyi, Phil Gons discouraged my note organization ( https://faithlife.com/posts/1701953 ) method because, "(1) a note can live in only one notebook, and (2) there's no support for nesting or hierarchy." I see his point and am up for anyone's suggestions!

Hey Andrew, they are the labels feature. Morris Proctor describes it as creating your own tagging system apart from Faithlife's tags. For example I have a label called doctrines of grace. When I highlight something and hit my shortcut key "T" it brings up a popup that says Doctrines of Grace and then I select something from a dropdown to indicate which doctrine that verse or passage is referring to.

You can create labels for ANYTHING. I mean you could even create a label for every time Scripture mentions different colors. Here is a link that shows a little about it. Morris Proctor has a whole course on labels. https://www.logos.com/logos-pro/label-entry

So an example about having a notebook for each Bible book would be if you were doing book summaries such as the background information like author, date, culture, etc. Stuff that would not be anchored to a specific reference in the book. You could also, in my opinion now that I have thought about it more, achieve the same result with tags.

Yes, I love the idea behind workflows but hate the way notes work in workflows.

Allowing anchor selection during the note creation would prevent the long string of note icons at the beginning of the passage being studied.
Projects would allow control of which/how many Notebooks get created.
Note attributes would eliminate the ugly factor and go a LONG way in the organization effort.

The intersection between Notes and Workflows still needs a lot of work!

If we could just save the Workflow in its entirety in one location regardless of its complete or not then that would solve most of my problems with it. Like I do with saved layouts so I can pick up where I left off. I may be missing something but I was doing an exegetical workflow which is very detailed and I had to leave it about half way finished and then I came back and clicked on it and see its totally blank. I now know all that work is in a note file now but I do not find that useful at this point. Ever learning.

Thank you folks! This is the only part of the program I found somewhat lacking...though much of that is likely due to ignorance of my own. It's always good to hear what other folks are doing!
