Hello "Logos" and "Faithlife"

I have a question regarding investment protection of logos. Already several Bible software have come and gone. What happens when Logos goes bankrupt against expectations. For example, how can personal notes be saved and reused in another program? What happens to the resources you bought for a lot of money?

We should never say this case will never happen, or so unlikely that we don't have to worry.

Are there precautions in place to allow users to export the many personal notes from logos in a form that allows further use.

Yes, you can make a personal book where you can manage your personal notes. But this also has disadvantages. That's why I'm not looking for a workaround, but a direct solution in case...

With interest I look forward to an answer.

I have a 4T HD stand alone, logos and numerous other programs are backed up every 24 hrs- so everything is available off-line.

Another reason I don't use Logos notes- I use Docx files and create my own PBB of those notes with links to logos resources, much better than the Notes function in Logos.

I don't mean that my PC breaks down, but when the Logos service is no longer offered. This means that all notes in logos are then lost in the logo system, stored in a database, and can no longer be retrieved, except by manual tedious copying and pasting.

I'm not sure I follow this.

Even when offline we can access our notes in our desktop copy of Logos and export them to a Word document (for example)

Please expand on exactly what issues you see in this scenario

That is the answer. Very good, I can export my notes to a word document and so the "surviving" is saved.

While there isn't an "import" feature, we can copy notes from Word documents and paste them into Logos Notes.

There is no direct indication in a Bible (or other resource) to a Personal Book.

You could create a note on the Bible text which has a link to the Personal Book. Would that give you what you want?

Yes, that would be a possibility. But it's just additional clicks, which I want to prevent as much as possible.

So I am very happy that "in case..." I can export the notes to Word. So I am on the safe side.

Yes, that would be a possibility. But it's just additional clicks, which I want to prevent as much as possible.

Othmar, I think Wyndell above referred to using a PB like your own commentary or study bible notes. You'd use bible reference milestones in the PB and build it as type bible commentary or bible notes. Then you can have a layout with e.g. the bible on the left side and your own notes flowing along on the right side without additional clicks.

Such a solution obviously is most helpful if you have a large amount of pre-existing notes and only a limited volume of changes and updates.

I prefer the word "if" Logos goes bankrupt However I suspect if such a scenario did occur there would be a buyer for the company. The user base and resource "rights" would be very very desirable to some buyer.

I understand- that's the reason I don't use notes in Logos- I make my own notes thru other means- and don't have to worry about it.

You're right in that none of us can predict the future so no one can say for certain. But Bob (the CEO of Faithlife) has written on this extensively. There was one post in particular that was very well written, but I can't seem to find it.
