How to Backup Notes on my own computer

Okay, call me paranoid, but I like to have usable copies of all my work on my computer.

How can I backup all my notes onto my computer in a format that I could still use in the event Faithlife disappears?

I have transferred all my notes from all my personal Bibles (since childhood) into Logos Notes. If something were to happen to Faithlife 15 years from now, I want to have a copy of those notes and all my current notes on my computer. The format may be rudimentary (RTF, CSV) but I would at least have it.

How can I keep a regular (weekly?) back up of all my Logos Notes?

This exact subject comes up about once every other year or so and occupies the forums for a few days. Every year, the answer is less and less, "it's possible" and more and more, "can't be done (at least, not efficiently)."

I'm curious if some new work has been done on the FL side to make local backups more feasible (not just notes, but resources, etc.). I'm not aware of any.

Your notes do reside on your computer locally. They are also on the Faithlife servers. If something happened and suddenly all cloud servers were gone, you would still have your notes on your computer. You would still be able to open the version of Logos you have installed on your computer. It is true that there are some tools and features which depend on communication with the FL servers. It is also true that the number of tools and features dependent on internet access has grown over the years. However your notes are not one of them.

When you back up your HD, you are backing up your notes.

As far as I know, this is possible by using the print/export option, printing all notes as a pdf document. Does this not work?

If it did work to just Export all notes to a Word Document, that would satisfy what I need. Unfortunately, it appears that there is a limit of 157 pages for an export of Notes (254 pages in Word). So that does not work.

That's ALWAYS been a curiousity, especially since we're talking largely pastors who move across less expensive platforms. And comma delimited is so common too. Saying that you can just back up your PC is best illustrated by Bibleworks and Libby ... good as long as Windows likes you. Then, bye, bye.

I think Fred covered this comprehensively. For peace of mind you might like to disconnect your computer from the internet and confirm that you still have access to your notes.

If you do, and I am sure you will, then that will confirm that your notes are indeed on your computer.

If now there is a meteorite strike on Bellingham, and you survive it yourself, you will be able to run Logos on your computer off line and use the next wee while before the infrastructure of civilisation breaks down to move your notes onto a tangible format.

I'm on Logos 9, Windows 10, and I guess my notes (and highlights and so on) are stored in database files somewhere in C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Logos\Documents. If you make backups it may be wise to include everything you can find there.

Another question is whether these files can be opened apart from Logos. I could not open them simply with Microsoft Access.

I've not transferred my notes to a Bible app for this very reason. So, just to confirm -- could all the notes be effectively exported by printing them in groups? Like by notebook or label, or some other way -- in order to get around the size limitation?

As a librarian who thinks about long term archival ability, I find it unfortunate and saddening that Faithlife has not prioritized an easier way to do this. If a well known pastor wants to donate his intellectual work to an institution at the end of his life, they do not have an easy way to do so. There is a way, as Jack helpfully explained, but it seems like a reluctant afterthought. Christianity is much richer because of the saved notes, letters, and sermons of those who came before.
