I would love to see THE READING AND PREACHING OF THE SCRIPTURES IN THE WORSHIP OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH by Hughes Oliphant Old.

Sorry, but I'm not aware of this author or this work. Please enlighten me.
Every blessing

Volume 1 The Biblical PeriodVolume 2 The Patristic AgeVolume 3 The Medieval ChurchVolume 4 The Age of ReformationVolume 5 Moderatism, Pietism, and AwakeningVolume 6 The Modern AgeVolume 7 Our Own TimeOlds' area of expertise is worship in the Reformed tradition. This is by far the best history of preaching that I am familiar with. Wait - it's the only history of preaching that I am familiar with but really it is quite good.
Thanks for the information. Homiletics was an area of scholarship which we barely touched in my B.D. course at the University of Glasgow. As someone who has specialised in Biblical Studies, it's an area that I would like to explore once I get my New Testament PhD thesis submitted in two-weeks time.
Then I can start reading more widely again and explore some of the works in Logos that I have in my Platinum Scholars collection. But Old's 7-volume work seems to offer a good entry, as I am fairly well acquainted with Church History.
Thanks again.
This would be a great set to have in Logos for the study of the worship and preaching throughout church history. The history of preaching and worship during the Patristic age would be especially tantalizing and interesting! The links to the Early Church Fathers would be fascinating!

Talk about an Fast Response from Logos! Incredible! Must have had this one "sitting in the wings," waiting to be launched. Looking forward to this book..............
Thanks muchly Elliot!
Just signed up at the pre-pub page for this excellent work.
Peace and Joy to my Brothers and Sisters! *smile*

I have both of these books by him:
Looking forward to this new prepub! I hope it comes out soon. I'm going to be auditing a class called the The Christian Pastor in Historical Perspective this fall, and this book would be a great resource to refer to.
Almost a year now, and this is still not in production.
Is anybody else also interested?
I'm already in...M.J. has posted a subject listing on this thread:

Thanks for the link, and thanks to M. J., too!
I found the series in Kindle format, too, but Logos' price is lower and Logos collection would be very nice. I've seen some excerpts in Google Books.
I've been surprised that this hasn't moved more quickly. It seems to me that all the Bible-based preachers (which I suspect is nearly all preachers) would be interested in the history of preaching ...and that everyone would be interested in how the Bible has been used since its inception.
Me, too.
And I always thought Logos users are mostly preachers.
Maybe the collection first came out when there were others more costly and "delicious" at the same time. Maybe this time it may get some more attention.
It's announced for shipping in two weeks! [:)]
Now it's shipped, and I am already reading it with pleasure.
And the author calls my favorite preacher as his best one, too. It's a Scotsman :-)
