Note some of these catechisms are requested for historical considerations, others for contemporary use. Others may have additions as this is far from a comprehensive list.

  • Small Catechism by Robert Bellarmine (the basis for the Baltimore Catechism)
  • The Douay Catechism
  • Baltimore Catechism (a US document out of the 3rd Council of Baltimore)
  • Catechism of Saint Pius X
  • A New Catechism: Catholic Faith for Adults (Netherlands Conference of Catholic Bishops)
  • The Common Catechism (ecumenical, 1973)
  • The Catholic Catechism by John Hardon (papal request prior to CCC)
  • Our Faith: A Byzantine Catechism for Adults by Casimir A. Kucharek (Ukrainian rite)
  • United States Catholic Catechism for Adults (with study guide, if possible)

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
