Thanks for the heads up. Is Bible Notes being retired or repurposed?

Repurposed. Notes will remain a resource type. We have about 50 titles that fall somewhere between a Study Bible and a Commentary and will remain as "Notes".
If you can imagine a triangle between Study Bible, Commentary, and Apparatus, "Notes" will be titles that don't fall comfortably in any three categories but might have characteristics of all three. The key component is that they will be short "notes" on ranges of Bible Text.

Makes sense.

I can change my collection rules NOW, but the change also affects the Commentaries section in Passage Guide, where Bible Notes are allowed. Study Bible should also be allowed, and that won't be accommodated by Sept 17 unless there is a service release for 8.7!?

This may be a first, Dave. I'm a step ahead of you. [;)] The Little Rock Catholic Bible Study and the Orthodox Study Bible were released with type:Study Bible. They do appear in the Commentary Section.

It's more likely, that this is not the first time[:)]
I have to wait for Sept 17.

You didn't use quotes. Are those no longer necessary for multi-word filters, or were they assumed?

I didn't use quotes in my test and I got the expected results.

that's because type:study will hit for type "study bible" and - currently! - for no other type. The filter actually asks for type:study AND bible, where bible could be anywhere in the metadata, including the type field, where it will be present for all type "study bible" resources. Thus the second part of the filter is redundant and is not restricting the results. Type:study would be equivalent in the current setup of things, but in order to teach people to do it right every time and to understand what they are doing, I'd advise using type:"study bible"

this may or may be not necessary (where I could run Logos against a collection, I think I can run it against an ad-hoc collection of type:"study bible" as well.
What some users may need is to check whether they us the former type:"bible notes" in existing collections. It would be nice if we could just export the rules of all our collections to someplace.... Lacking that, I remembered that Logos is evaluating our collection rules at startup (and it seems: quite often afterwards, too), thus I opened logos.log with an editor and just searched for bible notes.
Several lines like this came up:
... LibraryCatalog (527ms, exceeded 250ms) Searching for all records matching: ("biblical theology" OR "theology of the ??? testament") -type:("Media", "Bible Notes", "bible commentary")
which shows I have a collection rule that seeks to fish (with a broad net) for Biblical Theology resources, excluding commentaries, study bibles/notes and media. This gave me enough information to guess at the title of the collection, then opening and editing it to now exclude type "study bible" as well.
Just thought I'd give this example if people were wondering "what to do with the information in this thread?"

"theology of the ??? testament" is a very inefficient (but clever!) way to find "new" or "old". You may be able to speed up the performance of your collections by changing to:
("biblical theology" OR "theology of the new testament" OR "theology of the old testament")
Or you can use the (very little known) feature of the Logos search engine that the comma operator is supported inside phrases:
"theology of the (new,old) testament"

I don't recall very clearly, but I think I copied this neat idea from Mr. Mark Barnes some time ago."theology of the ??? testament" ... clever!
you can use the (very little known) feature of the Logos search engine that the comma operator is supported inside phrases:
"theology of the (new,old) testament"
this is nice and totally unexpected - someone should go ahead and document it in the wiki

I've pushed out the update and the Resource Types of the titles listed above have been changed to Study Bible.

After this update, the card on my iOS app changed. This was the Bible and study bible card. It used to default to my bible and the MacArthur study bible but now it defaults to the Unger bible handbook.
is there something I need to change?

This is a bug that will be fixed in a future update. In the meantime, you could perhaps create a split screen with both your Bible and the MacArthur Study Bible linked together.

Will this new Study Bible tag affect the collections in the Collection rules for sorting commentaries (updated for Logos 8 Base Packages) by Mark Barnes?
It has the rule for "Study Guide Commentaries" in:
Gold package, and original language material and ancient text material, SIL and UBS books, discourse Hebrew OT and Greek NT. PC with Windows 11

It has the rule for "Study Guide Commentaries" in:
"Study Guide Commentaries" could be affected if future releases are type:study-bible. "Textual Commentaries" could be affected as it includes type:bible-notes; some of which were converted to type:study-bible. If you think that some resources are not included, tag them according to the MyTag value in each collection rule.

Thanks Dave!
There seems to be several good solutions available.
I also made a layout with Study Bibles, useful when preparing for small Bible study group discussions.
