Logos 8 won't install on Windows 8 PC?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me why Logos 8 won't install onto a Windows 8 PC. I installed a SSD in months ago in place of the old WD HDD and i keep getting a message saying "Logos bible software requires Windows to be fully updated. Please install system updates."  Everything else runs fine and windows says its up to date. I have tried to find an earlier version of Logos to see if it would install, then update to latest Logos from there, but can't find any earlier program. I appreciate any help here. Thanks. Jeff

    Welcome [:D]

Curious about Windows 8 version ?

Logos Help Center (LHC) includes Logos Minimum System Requirements for Windows: 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 "Anniversary Update" (1607) or later.

In February 2020, minimum software requirements are scheduled to change for Logos 8.11+ => ANNOUNCEMENT: End of support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 & MacOS 10.11–10.13 (Faithlife will no longer test Logos 8.11+ on Windows 8.1 so has no idea what will be the last usable Logos 8 release for Windows 8.1 in 2020)

Thanks...it's windows 8 not 8.1 if that's what you mean. Also the reason I haven't gone to 8.1 is due to other

software on my machine which will have comparability issues if I update the OS.  I'm just stalling as long as possible

before I inevitably have to update the OS and other expensive software.

While delaying Windows OS update, may want to use web app => https://app.logos.com

FYI: personally used Right Click on Taskbar => Toolbars => Desktop (to enable Desktop on Taskbar as a work around for Start Menu not being in Windows 8 and 8.1)

Windows 10 version 1909 has Dark Mode option for Personalization of Colors (in Settings).

Since very cheap software companies can still get their software to work on XP, I have difficulty believing that Logos choose to cut Win7 & 8 when most software made for them actually work on 10.

I'm flabbergasted that Win7 has been cut since 35% of the world still use it. I have 7 Ultimate with all the upgrades & was told the same thing.

Makes me think that a deal has been cut with Microsoft to reduce costs at a time that thousands, if not millions of WordSearch users has to switch to Logos.

Customer service told me I had to upgrade to windows 10 to download Logos 8. I thought he was rediculous for saying that, but I guess he was right after all.

I hate win10 because Microsoft has the right to search your whole computer if you use it.It's in their agreement.

When a major computer co. gets the rights to do that, we're closer to the end than we realize.

FL pretty much historically says upgrade your devices or lose it (web app as the exception). The argument is more time for new stuff. At each no-more-support, they say hardly anyone still uses the older versions.

I was suprised Another Bible Co still can run on W7. And runs snap-ily. Probably their mission isn't supporting the church.

Edit: I'm still running L7 on W7. Works fine.

An alternative to Windows 10 is macOS. Thankful can easily switch between macOS and Windows 10 for Logos & Verbum (as desired).

Thankful for Faithlife posting thread on 12 Jul 2019 => ANNOUNCEMENT: End of support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 & MacOS 10.11–10.13 that preceded Microsoft ending support for Windows 7 on 14 Jan 2020 by six months. Also predated WordSearch migration by 14 months.

One of the major reasons for Windows (and other software) updates is security. The newer Windows Version supports "more security" protection than previous Windows versions. Believe me, there are "holes" in previous versions of Windows much to hackers delights.

But... I, like many, got caught with software that will not run on latest Windows version. Maybe too fancy is too much... but what's guy to do, learn to program their own Windows?  I like the latest bells and whistles... but it has been hair pulling at times.

I started with Windows 3.0... That was right after Noah got off the Ark???  lol.

L8 runs fine in Windows 8.1.

Somebody just added the cryptic message "Logos bible software requires Windows to be fully updated. Please install system updates."  to the installation files to annoy many users and to reduce sales.

I found this kind of market share statistics. I am not sure how much I can trust this one..

It is surprising that W7 has 25%. I know that big companies are using W7 since they don't have time for nonsense.

Big companies are not potential customers for L8. But it is surprising that there are so few Mac users in this stat.

With my current software and peripherals I am confined to W8.1 in my desktop. And many others may be in a similar situation.

It may be an accurate reflection of corporate/IT marketshare, but it doesn't match the operating system usage among Logos 7/8 customers at all.

Can you tell me what the operating system usage is among Logos 7/8 customers? Also, what about allowing all the new Wordsearch customers (like myself) to download logos 7 since it does work with windows 7?

From memory, when we made this decision 15 months ago, Windows 7 usage was about 5% of customers, and Windows 8/8.1 was <2%; we expected that to shrink even further when Microsoft moved Windows 7 to end of life. I think they're both <2% now (but the sample is biased because we only support Windows 10).

Also, what about allowing all the new Wordsearch customers (like myself) to download logos 7 since it does work with windows 7?

It hasn't been a widespread need; you are the first one I remember that's asked for Logos 7. AFAIK most/all other Wordsearch customers (who have installed Logos) have successfully installed Logos 8.

Windows 7 is end of life, and we don't provide support for it, so it doesn't ultimately seem customer-friendly to provide a download we won't help you with if there are problems. Additionally, Windows 7 doesn't support TLS 1.2 by default, so downloading the setup files (and possibly connecting to some of our services) will fail, so most customers wouldn't be able to get it installed without support.

But if you want to try to get it working, here you go: https://downloads.logoscdn.com/LBS7/Installer/LogosSetup.exe

Sometimes, one just has to give up and admit that what is needed is more power - be it hardware or software (or both).

Thanks Bradley.  I wanted to breath new life into an old laptop that had Win 10 but was too slow.  I was going to take it back to Win 7 so hopefully L7 will work.  I was just wondering where I was going to find an L7 installer and then found this post.  [Y]

The red train under the desk is 60 years old. After adding a decoder, it runs fine with the newest digital controller. The attitude of the manufacturer makes it possible.

My gut feeling is that L8 runs fine in Windows 8.1. Possibly even in the earlier ones. My problem is that the desktop computer what I am using I cannot upgrade, even after major efforts. (I have a laptop with Windows 10, but I don't enjoy small single screens).

xnman mentioned security. Security issues may be more important for Logos as a big company than for individual users, and I can understand it.
