Highlight Preview Loses Images After Applying Highlight

I have several highlighting styles with an image in the margin (such as a question mark, star, exclamation point, etc.) When I add a highlight, initially my styles look correct. After I click on a highlight style to apply it, however, all the images disappear and I am left with the underlines only.
