Since getting the latest beta update I am having to work offline, because L4 cannot reach the Logos servers.Any ideas?
Have you tried holding down the control key when you start Logos so that the log in screen comes up? I wonder if your login is correct.
Next try would be to check your firewall to see if it thinks Logos should be allowed out.
MJ,
Thanks for the reply.
I had noticed a couple of days ago that a manual update would bring up the "no updates found" response immediately. I didn't think much about it.
I changed my password and then noticed that the login didn't come up to ask for the new one. I held CTL and tried to login. It was then that I found that it said "Cannot reach logos.com".
I have checked the firewall, too, and the program is allowed.
I manually downloaded and installed the update again with no success. I also removed the latest .NET update to see if it had any effect. No success.
Hopefully there will be an answer somewhere.
Jason
Ensure that the "Use Internet" setting is "Yes", enable permanent logging Diagnostic Logging and then try a normal start. Upload the logs if the problem still exists.
5732.Logos4.logDave, Thanks for the reply.
Set to use internet.
Log attached.
Jason,
The error on your log file has been reported before but it seems to have resolved itself without intervention as the thread ended without coming up with a solution.
The log is reporting that it cannot get a response from the Logos authentication server. It states that there is a type 514 error which I cannot find info on.
Have you changed any way you communicate with the Internet recently?
One thing you might try is to see if there is a system restore point before the time you updated Logos 4 and restore to that point. That would eliminate an update that could be creating the problem.
Someone else had problem connecting to the Logos servers after cleaning up from a virus infection. It turned out the virus had changed his Internet options so that he was using a proxy server for his LAN. He unchecked this option and that fixed the problem.
Mark and Rosie,
That was indeed the problem. I live out in a rural area and use satellite for my internet service.
Earlier in the week I installed Wordperfect Office X5 so that I could review it for a retail site. Then I couldn't get on the internet, but didn't immediately recognize the problem as being related to a bad installation of that program, or a conflict with it. While talking with Hughes' tech support they had me set up a proxy as one attempt to solve the problem.
Having changed the settings I am now back in business.
Many thanks!
That's good to hear.
Great! I'm glad that worked. Note that if you do need to use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, there are ways to set it up so that Logos will work with it. There is a "Proxy settings" button you can click on in the Logos login dialog box. But if the Hughes techs were able to help you fix your Internet connection some other way, then this is probably unnecessary.
Rosie,
If there is a wiki page about Network usage, Network errors, Proxy, Firewalls etc ... something about the above kinds of issue would go well.

Beat you to it. I put it under Troubleshooting on the FAQ page, and it links to this solution: http://wiki.logos.com/Cannot_connect_to_Logos_servers.
Thanks for all of the help.
Glad to know this was added to the wiki.
I went there first, but couldn't find it.
Thanks again.
I also suffered the same situation after installing a virus protection software. This was solved by changing the proxy settings in BOTH explorer, and firefox. Unfortunately I had uninstalled and re-installed before I figured it out. Try changing settings in both before you go to too much trouble.
