“Septuagint Translation” section of "Bible Word Study" is grayed-out

I tried to follow Morris Proctor’s tip for 2010-07-05  (forwarded below) only to find out that for some reasons the “Septuagint Translation” section of my “Bible Word Study” page is always grayed-out.

For example, I know for sure the Greek word for "good (agathos)" or "prison (phylake)" appeared many times in the Septuagint.  However, when I followed Morris Proctor's tips below, the "Septuagint Translation" section is simply grayed-out.  I tried this with many other words in the New Testament in ESV Bible and the "Septuagint Translation" section is always grayed-out.

Can someone please let me konw why and how to fix the problem?

Several people have recently asked me for an easy way to search the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament) for every occurrence of a Greek lemma.
Here’s one way to do just that:
·       Open an English Bible with a Reverse Interlinear option—such as the ESV—to a New Testament passage
·       Right click on a word
·       From the right menu select Lemma “your word
·       Select Bible Word Study
·       When the Bible Word Study report opens, notice the section Septuagint Translation containing the translation ring
·       Click the Greek word in the center of the ring to see very occurrence of that Greek lemma in the Septuagint!

What base package do you have? I believe the resource needed to make this feature work is Greek–Hebrew Septuagint Reverse Interlinear which is available in OL/Scholars and up in the L4 packages.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your quick reply.  I have Logos 4 Platinum.  So, I should have the Septuagint Reverse Interlinear.

I know for sure I have ESV Reverse Interlinear, which is what stated in Morris Proctor's tips.  So, by right that is all it needs to work.

    Any other advice?

I just tried a BWS for "Prison" in John 3:24 of the NKJV and the Septuagint portion displayed as expected.

The resource you need is actually the Septuagint with Logos Morphology. It comes with Original Languages or above, so you should have it.

It does not make sense to use this section let alone click the word in the centre of the ring. The Textual Searches section contains the result opposite LXX. Click LXX to generate the Search in Logos LXX (Septuagint with Logos Morphology).

But the BWS is not even needed:-

    • right click and select  lemma "your word"  in ESV
    • Select Search this Resource
    • In the Search tab change the bible to Logos LXX (or other LXX with Logos Morphology) and Search!

That is a better method, but I would still be curious as to why the BWS did not work for the OP.

Mark is correct (as usual) as to the resource needed to accomplish the original purpose.

Were you indexing at the time? and/or

Do you have the Logos LXX resource?

    Jack,  Mark, Dave,

Thank you very, very much for your immediate reply and assistance.

Dave is correct on both account:

    1) Clicking LXX at Textual Searches gives me what I need immediately.

    2) My Logos 4 must have been indexing (I know because I just realize there is a logos 4 icon on the bottom right corner of my screen) when my "Septuagint Translation" grayed-out.  Now that the "indexing" icon disappeared, the "Septuagint Translation" section of BWS appeared as indicated in Morris Proctor's tips for today.

I learned something new today (the Textual Search).  Thanks, everyone.

I just bought Logos 4 four months ago.  I was under the impression that "indexing" occurred only once during first installation.  Can one of you advise me what exactly is indexing and how often does it repeats itself?

Apparently this "indexing" interferes with the normal operation of Logos 4.

Indexing occurs continually as you create user data. Indexing occurs when you purchase new resources or Logos releases upgraded versions of resources. Indexing occurs when the new release of software requires a new or modified index. Only the latter is a complete reindexing that may require significant time and disrupts all index dependent functions. The frequency should decrease but is currently unknowable.
