Video input issue - Elgato HD60 Pro

Having a bit of an issue with the Video Input in Proclaim

I am very fortunate to have access to both an HD60 S and an HD60 Pro video capture device.

The HD60 S connects to the PC via a USB, whilst the Pro is built into the PC.

The S shows up in Proclaim and works very well.

The Pro only displays a black screen.

using the same camera for both cards works in both OBS and the elgato software.
Has anyone had a similar problem and did they find a solution?

Hi Sean

Ive taken a look at my privacy settings.

Proclaim has permission to use the camera.

- I have submitted a log file.

I've also just conencted a usb webcam, which works - its only the inbuilt caputre card that does now, which is odd becuase it works with other software.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Unfortunately not.

As of last week it still only showed up as a black screen in proclaim.

Had a remote session with help desk after this post and they could not get it working - issue was reported to dev team, but not working yet.

We have been using our hd60s+ cards, the usb version of the pro. Which was working fine. Now it only appears as a square rather than letter box format - developers are aware of the bug, but no fix yet.

Currently using the cheapest of capture cards from Amazon - about £17. Seems to work ok, but the would really like my good cards to start working again.

It must be something with the built in capture devices that Proclaim is tripping on. We installed an Elgato 4K60 in our new Proclaim streaming PC and Proclaim crashes with it. This is disappointing considering the following these cards have in the streaming world. No way to return it either. Is Proclaim still in beta for streaming?

Had a discussion with a developer on this issue a while back. Yes - video input is still basically in beta. They added very quickly to help church and when they have the time they will go back and refine it / make it work better.

Its a shame that it does not seem to like the elgato stuff, but I am now using the elgato cards straight into OBS and using the NDI output in proclaim to overlay on top - - which works very well.

Really appreciate the response. This is definitely a problem for our situation. The AV team is completely clear on being able to stream with OBS, but there is essentially a mandate for us to use Proclaim as a turn key solution. In other words, no OBS or other 3rd party apps. The mandate is meant to ensure there can be a simple way to run our service including starting and starting streaming in case the main AV person is out. We are currently streaming with an ATEM mini Pro, and using it to overlay Proclaim with camera feed. This is an approved short term work around until we could get Proclaim configured "properly".

But, based on what you shared it sounds like there is literally no way for us to utilize the Proclaim streaming feature (i.e., primarily want to start and stop inline with service) until Failthlife takes the time to beef up and make the streaming module more robust. This is a shame for sure. The only other recourse would be for us to try several capture devices until one works. From this thread it looks like HD60 and 4K60 are both out. I will keep working to see if I can resolve, but I've lost "Faith" in this path considering the beta capability.

Hopefully Faithlife will chime in with new guidance soon.

Chris is right, both the video input feature and the streaming cues were added last year during the height of the pandemic. The goal being, provide an easy streaming solution for pastors who were not tech-savvy or just needed something quick.

So far, the streaming feature is still on Windows only and still in beta. It is missing features such as integration with our new virtual screens. Plus finicky about what resolution your current monitor is. (This can affect the size of the stream)

Using the ATEM mini pro sounds like a better solution to me (and I make Proclaim! haha), but I can see why having everything in Proclaim would simplify things for volunteers.

We do have plans to beef up the video input feature, as that has usages beyond just streaming (IMAG for example), plus we added NDI support to make sending Proclaim to streaming software easier, and we are currently working on integration with BlackMagic SDI/decklink devices to better integrate with their video switchers and capture cards.

Are you guys doing in-person services in addition to live streaming? If so, that is another reason the beta-feature won't be great for you, as it doesn't interact with the virtual screens currently. So you cant have fullscreen slides in the sanctuary while having lower thirds or other content on the stream.

Jordan, I really appreciate your response. Yes, I think the ATEM mini pro is a great option. We are effectively using it to bring in the camera(s) and Proclaim, and then switch to any input or create picture-in-picture (overlay slides in the corner). With the mini pro it is also allows us to stream 1080p direct to YouTube from the ATEM. It's good quality, and really is a great solution for many. If folks are up for spending a bit more then a quad screen can be used inline to preview camera(s) and Proclaim prior to entering the ATEM and ultimately going out as a stream. But, all of this keeps it from being "simple" in one application so we look forward to improvements where Proclaim can accept the ATEM mini pro as an HDMI input through the Elgato 4K60 capture card.

It seems the stream output should be the same in both of these configurations once Proclaim can stream using the capture card as input. Meaning, we would essentially move the stream url/key from the ATEM mini pro to the Proclaim stream settings. Everything else would be equal with Proclaim still entering the ATEM to mix with cameras as we now. Would there be any issues with this setup in your mind (once streaming is fixed of course)?

We are in-person as well as living streaming.

Would you guys want your camera feed and the PnP on your in-person screens? If so, it would work within Proclaim, once the video input is beefed up to support the card.

If you wanted in-person to be full screen, and then the stream be lower-thirds/PnP then it wouldn't work with the current Proclaim beta, even if the capture card worked.

Currently, the video input comes in as a background layer, behind the slides. Then you 'reveal' it by using transparency on the slide itself. And at this time, the beta feature streams the main slides output, so you would need to use the same layout for in-person and the stream.

With the ATEM doing the streaming, you can use Proclaim's Virtual screens to have fullscreen slides in-person, and then add a live stream output to send to the ATEM that you can customize separately from the in-person slides.

Is the main issue having to teach the volunteers how to start and stop the stream? I'm wondering if there is a way we could have Proclaim start and stop the ATEM's stream. That would let it seem 'self contained' in Proclaim, and use the power/extra-hardware of the ATEM to do the stream itself. (which will be easier on the computer too!)

Another forum user just asked about controlling ATEM switchers, so looking forward to seeing how that works out.

Jordan, thanks for this additional information. We would not want the in-person view to have the PnP view only the stream output for those at home.

I think the main objective has been simplicity, but I think we can get by in meeting this requirement if we can hide the complexity in the background So, yes, I believe if we could control the ATEM stream with Proclaim that could be a solution. I saw the other thread where it's fairly convoluted (multiple apps/layers). If Proclaim could send commands natively I see that being pretty powerful.

In this case, the Elgato for us becomes a way to record a special clip or service instead of streaming. We could probably pull that off with OBS since that's a one off event.
