Is L4 a new Bible software program?

Many years ago I purchased a floppy disk and ran a program called Logos 1.6. I was instantly impressed and have used Logos ever since because it is the BEST! I intend to keep on doing so.

Every now and then I have run trial programs of several other Bible Software ... never paying anything! I compare them with Logos and come back to Logos.

Now L4 seems to be a completely new program, which shares much the same library with L3. The only other thing it has in common is Bob, Bradley and Rick.

But what would I have done if Bob, Bradley and Rick had gone to Pradis and come up with Pradis 4?

What we have to do now is a completely new test .... L4 against all the others, including L3.

I still use WordPro. I know there are newer (!!) word processors on the market and I know that eventually Microsoft will bring out an OS which will kill WordPro. But I continue to use WordPro, not because other WPs are no good but because there are a couple of things that Wordpro does that NO OTHER WP does. I use WordPro because of a few critical features.

What will I do if there a couple of features that I really like in L3 (and there are lots) but do not show up in L4?

You'll do what we all do: realize that worse things have happened, be glad for those you love who are still around you, praise God for all His abundant blessings, and this little thing called a Bible study program, will fall into proper perspective as a nice tool. The old tool may have fit your hand better, but the new one, after a bit of getting used to, works just fine. And while there are somethings about the old one you miss, after a while you'll have a hard time remembering what they were.

BTW, I'm still a dedicated WordPerfect user.And I think I might even have some Logos 1.6 3.5" floppy disks around somewhere. Sometimes I still miss that library sidebar (though with over 2000 resources, it'd be pretty cluttered!).

Yes L4 is as different from L3 as L3 was from L2. But the resources are basically the same (a little different look for the Rev Int's).

At least thats what I read somewhere, please remember as well Logos 3 is getting long in the tooth (speaking as a programmer, its code base is now old ) its nice to see a Christian company looking to the future and taking a bold step into the future, I believe this is the right move, and am looking forward to abandoning v3.

I like what I see, yes its radical, and a couple of ways of doing things have changed, but I will be heading into the future with them, it already does 90% of what I used to do in v3 and expect that to be 100% before end of beta

Bob and co. have told us that there are some features that will not be carried over and there are some that will, but that won't be a part of the initial release. Are there any features that you are thinking of particularly? We might be able to let you know what the word is on those specific features. Also, there may be new ways of doing old things, as many of us have found. Personally, I'm finding I often like the new way better once I get used to it!

As a side note, Bob has also said that it will be possible to run 3.0 alongside 4.0, and they continue to support the old platforms as best they can, so if there are features that are essential for you, you will still be able to use them (see here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/1154.aspx?PageIndex=9 ).

Are there any features that you are thinking of particularly?

The one thing I can't remember hearing from Logos is where things sit with print functions. All I've been able to find so far is the ability to print pictures. I am sorta curious to know Logos' intentions with print functions.
