One thing is for sure - they need to do something a little extra for security.

I take it you haven't seen the news reports. The MLS has released a statement taking full responsibility. (Mac Liberation Society).
Are you sure guys that is not an attempt to slower down the development of MAC version? Looks kind of suspicious to me to rob the same office twice in a very short time. Or the security is not sufficient?

I appreciate a joke as much as anyone else, maybe a little too much sometimes. Keep in mind that Logos has been robbed. Even thought here is insurance and all of that, this is still distressing and hurtful to the employees and families. It also hurts productivity for the business.
I am not really slamming anyone for making jokes, but remember also to pray for our Logos friends, and pray for those who committed the crime. They need Jesus just like I do.

Just a minor correction. The theft was in their Bellevue mac dev office, not in Bellingham. (Bellevue is about 90 miles south of Bellingham.)

So it's still a little surprising to hear that this has happened again. It's almost as if Logos is being deliberately targeted. Hence my comment that they need to do a little something extra for security.
Last time my office was broken into exactly the same thing happened. The thieves waited until we'd replaced everything on the insurance, and then came back. Brand new equipment for them, and they already knew their way around the building.

This is a very common strategy of thieves; they do it on house breakins, too. Immediately after a theft is the second best time to get an alarm system. Before you've ever been broken into is an even better time. I'm sure they had an alarm system, though. The pros don't care if an alarm is going off. They are so fast at what they do, they can steal all the machines and get out of there before anyone in the neighborhood even gets suspicious about that darned alarm going off. Usually it's a false alarm (with cars and such), so I wonder how often alarms really do stop thieves. They need something more powerful than an alarm system. CCTV + LoJack for Mac + a vicious guard dog in the building.

OK - really sad news about the breakin. The Mac store might be happy again, Monday morning, but building security is clearly not up to whatever is needed.

Because they have 3 huge dogs that roam that property and if anyone comes on the property they are swiftly introduced - and not in the friendliest of terms.
Now, in all actuality these dogs wouldn't hurt a flea - but they sure do sound like they would. Their house was even safe when they went away for a month to visit relatives in Norway.
My parents have lived there for well over 10 years and they've had no problems at all - due to a good set of dogs.
So I'd vouch for that. I know it works.

It was the Bellevue satellite office again, (which is actually space we're sub-leasing from another company).
At our Bellingham offices we're quite secure, and have video surveillance as well. But since we weren't the tenant at the Bellevue office, and were only there temporarily to catch up the Mac product, we didn't have the same protections in place there.

Yeah my house was broken into 7 times in one summer, until I chased a guy out with a 300 mag, got dogs (ain't he sweet), a burglar alarm etc... My wife still wakes up screaming in the middle of the night occasionally. Seriously wrong.

Were these the Macs that replaced the first heist inventory? That would make them barely used Macs. A frequent ploy of burglars is to return to a former crime victim and steal the new items the insurance company just purchased as replacements.

I'm sure it was covered, but wouldn't their insurance rates go up after two thefts in such close proximity? Just like car insurance rates go up after an accident. If the insurance company thinks Logos is a high risk because they don't have enough security at that satellite site, it won't want to be put on the spot to cover yet another potential theft down the road without some compensation.
I have been in the insurance business for 41 years, and see more than high rates are at stake.
First, I am going to assume Logos commerical policy has been with the same company for many years, and that Bob carries considerable insurance with the company. Even so there is a real danger the policies are going to be cancelled. Two theft claims in a short period are considered a curse by underwriters. Logos is definately going to see a rate increase. They need our prayers.'
Secondly, Logos should go proactive immediately by purchasing a good alarm system. Additionally, I would recommend increasing the policy deductible considerably, and in 4 or 5 years lower it if there have not been any claims. I would also contact the insurance underwriter to see if they have any additional suggestions.
