Logos 9 Free Engine Upgrade

Thanks John,
So true, I have been through the gammit of Bible Software through the years and switched them over. Except for one I do not remember the first I used was NIV Bible, then Quickverse, I also also had Libronox (Logos}, Parsons and Wordsearch (which was horrible in those days). My best find was PC Study Bible at the time then they changed their platform that really stinks now and got really expensive. Lesson maker finally came out with Bible Explorer which was a affordable easy to use Bible software but could not do intense word study at the time like PC Study Bible. Logos was Horrible at the beginning but than got very complex and expensive with the packages the upgrade every year or two which was too high for me. Wordsearch stepped up there game along with a great support staff and came up with a great computer software that was easy to use along with a community they listened to (note not saying logos does not listen). Wordsearch users saw changeS take place when Lifeway took over the business and ever since then we should have known that after Lifeway Bookstores went out of business almost everywhere that this would be the next thing to go.
Besides Wordsearch I use Accordance for studying and teaching Hebrew using The First Hebrew Primer. I do not care too much for their platform but even now if I already did not have so much invested through wordsearch one can switch over for $200 with a really good package.
hopefully logos software will develop something like wordsearch as I really do not like the format of what looks more like a website page rather than a Bible Software. I wonder why they purchased wordsearch since their platforms are so different unless it has to do with concerned about someone else purchasing it and this is just removing the competition.
Logos has a lot to offer but for someone that does word studies lesson preparation. It is too much to go through and does not have ease of use as other Bible Programs.
Sure they have training videos to go through but it Should not be that complicated that I have to go through all the videos to get what I want since I did not have to do this with other Bible Programs. Yes I am loosing an old friend.

I'm intrigued by this comment and don't really understand it.
Are you able to expand / clarify what you mean please?

Look at the home page, first thing you see reads like website. No icon for Bible but looks more like hyper links, Compare this to other Bible Software.. look at the features such as store on top. then a dashboard you have to create, verse of the day and such. Feels ,ore like a website and a store when you first enter than a Bible Program.

Hi David, sorry if you took this personally as I really do not think you are lying but wanted to known if you compared them by being a true user. This is not only me that is not happy with the change as my old Pastor contacted me and not only does not like the change but is having problems maneuvering through Logos.

That helps - thanks for the explanation.
I understand how the Home Page can look more like a website - with links to various things.
However, many of us - myself included - don't tend to open Logos to the home page but either to a layout from which we can directly engage with our study or to a blank layout from which we can add Bibles, Commentaries etc. Personally I tend to do the latter but I know that many others have developed their own layouts that they open when Logos starts
You can select your preferred behaviour from Program Settings

If you do not like the way Logos opens at the start just change it.
By the way when David wrote " In fact, while I was at Liberty University they decided to use WS as their platform for our textbooks. I was constantly frustrated at the software as it was woefully inadequate in my viewpoint."
And you responded, "BTW were you a WORDsearch user, based on the statement i do not think so."
I could see why he was insulted.
It is important to read what folk write in response to questions and good manners to make sure that ones responses show that one has paid attention to what they actually write.
However, you will observe that this is a case of 'doing what I say rather than what I do' when you see the number of apologies that I have to make.

I am, have used WS, Accordance, Logos, and PC Study Bible, along with some others. I find Logos much more to my liking than the others.
As to not having to watch the videos, I watched the WS, Accordance, Logos, and PC Study Bible videos in order to get the most out of my application. I would highly recommend, at a minimum, watching the Quick start videos that came with your Logos package. it will help you get acclimated much faster.
As always, if you get frustrated and need help, these forums are a great place to get it.

You don't have to watch the videos, but you will get more out of the software if you do. It also helps to read the documentation. And many of us here at the forums are more than willing to help.
It's hard switching, though at this time you are not required to switch, but a willingness to learn the software would go a long way and I think you will come to know and love the software as so many of us do.

I really don’t want to seem like I am complaining all the time on the change as I am thankful that I get to keep all my books and not have to start from scratch again.
The Videos may help but I liked the easy to use icons and links in wordsearch so it will take me aa while to get used to it. Right now I am using the dashboard to try to put all my books in a better order as possible.
The best thing I like about Logos is the Messianic books selection which I did not have in Wordsearch. Hopefully that will continue to grow more than what they have now. I will one day move to the Philippines and trying to get all my library there may be a huge challenge due to the weight so this may be an alternative to lesson my load.
Thanks to all who responded0 -

I am not talking about the stuff but the business As a whole which is why I switched to WORDsearch years ago. Almost anyone can tell by the price of the product comparing to other software along with physically purchasing the books that logos is high.
Logos is still around be they have made business decisions including price that have allowed them to keep the software up to date with modern technology.
Wordsearch is no longer around because their pricing model did not allow the software to move with the times. It was seriously outdated, they had issues with trying to get it to run on the latest Mac version and to bring the software up to date so it could continue would have required a massive injection of cash and people resources for which Lifeway would not get an adequate return. Sadly WS was destined for this demise because it was the product was being run by a publisher and not a software company.
Destiny arrived and it is not FL’s fault, they are not greedy, they need to sell to ensure they are here next week, next month and into the next decades of all its users ministry and lives.
I do feel your personal situation Lawerence.

That most likely is true as I do not like Mac but use windows for all my computer programs. i Do on the other hand use Apple IPad for a lot of other things.
