This is a nice update, but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed that Dark Mode highlighting is still unusable.  For a feature that's listed as the #3 new feature on the Logos 9 product page it feels like the fixes are not high enough on the priority list.

The highlighting palette has a very limited range of colors to choose from so I'm surprised that this wasn't thoroughly tested and fixed by now.

I hope 9.3 will prioritize Dark Mode fixes

I downloaded it and restarted, but I don't see the "today in Christian history" card -- is there something else I need to see to enable this?

I'm in the same boat. I don't have a "Today in Christian History Card" for the Home Page. Also after reading the release notes, the software tells me I've updated to 9.2 but there are some features that I don't have that the Release notes say I should.

The card appears in the 'explore' section.

I thought it would be in the dashboard, so missed it as well!

The card appears in the 'explore' section.

I'm also not getting it appearing, even after enabling everything in the "Explore" section and  restarting Logos twice. Not a major problem to me, as I have so many cards in the "Dashboard" section I don't often even get down to the "Explore" section.

Does today in history require a certain data set or feature level to show up / run?

I've got Platinum and Connect so I'd be very surprised if I haven't got the appropriate level.

We are looking into fixing this.

I also do not see a "today in Christian history" card.  I also noticed that even though I have "pre-orders" unchecked in my settings, I'm still seeing cards for pre-orders.

EDIT:  I fixed it by unchecking "My Logos Messages"

I also do not see a "today in Christian history" card.

I'm sorry for the confusion, everyone.

This new card, and the corresponding Factbook section, requires a brand new dataset called "Today in Christian History." As a special thank you for everyone who has purchased/ will purchase a Logos 9 base package during the launch period, you'll get this new dataset for free. We are working on unlocking as we speak; you should see it on the home page later today, after restarting the software.

Philana, this release still has the freeze that I reported and Dave confirmed in BUG: Concordance guide in current beta ... and we never got a confirmation that FL acknowledged the problem. Fighting said freeze tonight has not put me in a good mood about this.

So....Verbum 9 owners and Verbum Now subscribers don't get this?  Still trying, after several years, what I get and don't get.

    Thanks

One thing that this specific feature highlights is that Logos doesn't do well with being left open overnight. It appears that the expected use case is for Logos to be closed and reopened daily.

I say this because the 'Today in Christian History' card does not update unless I press Refresh on the Dashboard. This is similar behaviour to Reading Plans saying 'tomorrow' when it is in fact today's reading (unless I restart the app).

Are there any plans to change that behaviour, or should I open a feedback suggestion?

Why do you think that is the case? I don't know the answer, but I would not assume that Adam's use of "Logos 9" necessarily excludes "Verbum 9" users as well.

On the other hand... If the "Today in Christian History" leans heavily towards protestant events in history, I could see why this may not be included in those packages.

I say it because neither the card nor the dataset have shown up to my Verbum.

As for it being heavily Protestant is entirely irrelevant to me...I have a lot of "Protestant" resources.

    Thanks

I understand, but there is a reason for having a distinct Verbum brand. Not everyone feels as you do, else there wouldn't be a separate program  "Verbum" at all.

Hopefully Adam can clarify. If this is intended only for "Logos" users, you may be able to pick up an inexpensive L9 package if the feature would be of interest to you. (Browsing through the denominational packages can often be rewarding).

Thanks JT.  Basically, I'm just being curious because I didn't know if I should report it as a bug if Verbum was supposed to get it (we are Christians too [:D]) and I didn't.  If Verbum isn't supposed to get it I'm fine with that, too.

I appreciate your responses and all the help you give throughout the forums.

    Thanks,

    Indeed!

As JT mentioned, the dataset is heavily weighted toward Protestant (and in some cases, very recent Protestant) history. Work has already begun on a dataset that would be more useful and interesting to the Catholic audience. I'd love to connect with you to explore the matter further.

Thank you for advocating for it!

    TL,

That is great news about the new dataset.  A lot of history to be input.

Can we assume that which dataset is used [when the "Catholic audience" one is ready] will depend on the setting of "Verbum" [as in "set Verbum to No" or "set Verbum to Yes"] ?

Clicked on the card “Today in Christian History”

Got a line starting with a flag about:

“1986 Charismatic Bible Ministries Is Founded Organization”

Clicked on the flag and nothing happened.

Is that what I should expect? [or did nothing happen because I do not own the resource that the link pointed to?]

[Also was shown a media image that opened when clicked and gave:

A photo with the caption: "On January 21, 1956, Patriarch Timotheus of Jerusalem was buried. Clothed in all his vestments his body is on view to Orthodox Arab and Greek mourners"]

We created a number of new Timeline events to support the Today in Christian History data: i don't think they've all gotten shipped yet. This one does exist internally, so it should get shipped soon.

As JT mentioned, the dataset is heavily weighted toward Protestant (and in some cases, very recent Protestant) history.

And here I thought the criteria was events involving people and organizations of which MJ has never heard. [;)] But I was thinking of this problem last night. There is no practical way for Faithlife to cover enough of the theological/denominational streams to keep it both interesting and useful for everyone. I started imagining denominational add-ins that one could select as options. While owned and maintained by Faithlife, they would be created by users who self-identify with the denominational stream. In other words, Faithlife asks Catholics, Anglicans, Orthodox, Baptists, Wesleyians ... for events they consider worth offering. Faithlife creates the necessary entry for those that meet Faithlife criteria - and tags them by theological stream. User requests by theological stream and get events they find interesting/useful ...

Although I am not Catholic, I would still be interested in a "Today in Christian History" card from the Catholic perspective.  Does this mean I would have to purchase a Verbum package too?

Can we also add different centuries.  I happen to be very interested in the first few hundred years of the church.  I think such a list could get very lengthy very quickly.  [:)]

Have more interesting events than can be counted on one's fingers happened after 1500?

Logos does very well being left open for several days. I can't verify your report for date-based cards, but it could be suggested that the software should update them when switching to the Home Page.
