Barnes is on the Move

I originally put in a $30.00 bid way back, and about a month ago upped it to $60.00.
Was just wondering if it is going to be worth it since some of the reviews don't look that good. I did see that spurgeon said the old testament was good along with the epistles.

Personally , Barnes is one of my favorite commentaries. Theologically very conservative yet more concise than Gill, Calvin..........

And that overall it was good for ministers and Sunday School teachers![:)]

HI logos if you are reading there has been discussion on theses notes saying there are enough people bidding just not the right amount, can you send a flyer to all account holders, or just those who have bid and ask them to raise the bid by enough to produce the resource? Also as the resource can be viewed on line for free ! can you not produce it anyway, as a lot of us have been waiting a long long time for this resource !, or can we have the personal book builder asap so that we can add resources like this ourselves, i know they would not be linked as well but we would be able to use it.
Otherwise i am hopping there will be enough extra interest in this resource over the coming months to have it produced.
Also is there a user forum specifically for requesting new resources, and discussing ways of speeding things up.
Thanks
Garry

If you want to engage in discussions about your suggestions, then the Suggestions forum is the place to do it (it's both for suggested new features or improvements to the software as well as suggested resources). But realize that the forum is not necessarily going to get the attention of the people within Logos who have the decision making responsibility. The best way to do that is email your suggestions to suggest (at) logos (dot) com. If you've managed to drum up a lot of enthusiasm about your suggestion by posting it on the forum, then include a link to that thread in your email.

I believe that one of the reasons this has been sitting for so long, is that at least two other Bible software programs include this in their base packages. I have Barnes Notes in two other programs so purchasing it for Logos will be a third copy for me. I would also suspect that if it ever makes it to development, that it will eventually appear in Logos base packages at some point in time.
I have put a bid on this to have it in Logos though.

I love this thread! Now that pesky Alexander Whyte ([:P]) has moved on we can concentrate on rescuing Barnes from the sordid perils of...
...THE BOTTOM OF THE CP PAGE.
I maxed out my bid and will name my first child "Barnes".
(...no not really on the latter)

Hi Logos (if your reading ?),
Did you read the comment about other programmes includding it in there base packages ? Well doesn't that mean you should include it in yours lots of people use it and get other packages to use it other than logos? Which may be why not enough people are bidding as they have it in another program.
And logos users if we all bid we can get this large resource for only a few dollars, so lets all get bidding and save it from the bottom of the CP page !

Top 5 reasons that I wouldn't add in your blog post [;)]
- I'm tired of just talking to Matthew Henry
- It would be pennies on the dollar when it ships
- Spurgeon gave us permission to like it [:P]
- I seem to have more than enough free copies of just the NT notes on "other" Bible software
- Its been so long!...sorry that doesn't really help; Any others??

Why do you want Barnes so badly?
Maybe, because it is there? That seems to be a favorite of mountain climbers. Why do people climb mountains? Because they're there. [:D]

I like his devotional thoughts. He also has a reasonable amount of helpful application to 19th century life - and by default to ours (hey, the Bible is even older and we have not problem using it - even recognizing the authority of the author). I do find myself going to a competing product regularly to skim/read Barnes. Having Barnes available in LOGOS could stop this bad habit. [:)]

I've seen that said a few times now. That's not truly the case, is it? I'm not in front of my computer with e-sword at the moment, but I'm almost positive that the free e-sword module has both OT and NT.

OK, you got me. Not every Bible software but the two others I have tried give you just the NT for free. Back to "Barnes On The Move"

It's hard to say why I enjoy Barnes so much. In Esword I have 22 commentaries. If I'm quickly trying to study something I go to Calvin, Poole and Barnes to see what they say. Barnes just has a way of saying it that makes it feel more like I'm having a conversation with a pastor instead of having a theologian tell me what they think. I have Barnes notes in the Word, Esword yet I bid 90 dollars for it because I enjoy it that much. I hope to some day by the paper edition of it too because it is a commentary I love to sit back in a comfortable chair and read. I don't know if that helps you with your post but that is why I enjoy Barnes so much.
In Christ,
Scott

And while you putting in your bid or increasing your bid for Barnes don't foget Hasting Dictionaries. http://community.logos.com/forums/t/21456.aspx .

So, how can you tell that Barnes is at 60%?
0 -
Actually looks closer to 70% now... you can see it from the graph on the community pricing page.

Yes, it has shifted again and is almost straddling to the two lines. In overall perspective, Barnes has made huge moved in the last few months compared to the many months before. It seems everyone is mainly bidding around the $30 mark, which is making it go very slow for this 10,000 page resource. If everyone would bid $40, it would more go more quickly over the top and more than likely sell for $30 or less anyhow do to the last rush crowd.
Barnes has become a bit of a landmark on the Logos website!

After reading this blog post on Community Pricing, I maxed out my bid.

You're welcome, I should have said more in my post.
What Phil Gons pointed out was basically that Community Pricing is counter-intuitive. We naturally want to bid for the lowest price, but it doesn't work the best that way. The more people who bid higher, the lower the price is driven for everyone. Since you can cancel your bid at any time, even afterwards when it goes pre-pub, there's no reason not to just max out your bid!

I read that blog a little while ago, but didn't do anything afterwards. I've now pushed my Community pricing bids up to the maximum. Once community pricing offers get close to 100% the price always drops dramatically anyway.

Mvps can you recommend to logos and logos can you give my idea the once over.
When a bid is placed on a community resource or especially if a resource has enough bids but they are all or mostly too low, can you send an email stating the pitfalls of low bidding and the protection that they can always with draw the bid at the last minuets. Which might stop the stagnation of resources in the list and also benefit logos in having a larger resource pool to attract new customers.
As stated the email could go out to all bids, or to only stagnant resources or just as a reminder to everyone every now and again or a short to the point blog post! What do you think?
Thank you

With Barnes it might be a good idea for Logos to email those who placed low bids. It's been such a long time that they may have forgotten and the recent trend upward should be a good motivator. Perhaps Logos could email all with a range of options:-
- low bids remain --> what the other bidders need to do to bring it to 100%
- low bids are moved to the current minimum bid --> what the other bidders need to do
- what all current bidders need to do to bring it to 100%

I've noticed that the $25 position has been on a consistent rise as of late but the high mark really hasn't moved...

Where is Mark Barnes? I don't think I've seen any posts from him for quite some time.
EDIT - Nevermind, I went and checked his activity and he has been posting. I hadn't noticed that he his avatar has changed.
