Custom Smart Media Lower Thirds

I am trying to create a Lower Thirds graphic in Custom Smart Media.  Every time I upload the graphic, which is already sized to lower third, align it how I like, adjust the text box to fit.  I also leave the top third as transparent so we can put the green screen on the upper portion when we assign the graphic.  But when I save the Smart Media Template, it then makes the rest of the graphic White instead of leaving it transparent.

I would love to be able to make this work but not sure what I'm doing wrong.
