What does Variant Readings refer to in this Instance?
In the Information window under Translation for glory (from Psalm 16:9) it shows [variant reading] LES2, LES. Yet, when I hover over LES2 or LES it shows that both these translations have translated the word as heart.
Why does it say variant reading rather than heart?

LES and LES2 - and also the book of Psalms in the Vulgate - are translations of the Greek Septuagint, i.e. they use a different source text than the ESV which is based on the Masoretic text.

I will take a stab. Denise will set me straight later. [:D]
Two things: First, the ESV's "Whole Being" is translated as "glory," "soul," and "spirit" in other translations. I assume this is from the HEBREW (MT). I believe it says "variant reading" and lists those translations because they are not from the HEBREW, but from the LXX GREEK.
For the record, those translations are not translating that phrase as "heart," but as "tongue."

Okay. I thought that might be the case but wasn't sure.

My oversight. Yes, it's tongue. I just quickly read the passage from the LES2, "On account of this, my heart was cheerful,
and my tongue rejoiced exceedingly," and my eyes locked onto "heart" rather than "tongue rejoiced."
Thanks!

I think you and HJ were answering at the same time! HJ was right (as always), as well as you (of course).
But this is an interesting instance where LEB pointed to NET as a good discussion of ancient emotional expression, on the hebrew side. Kudos to LEB ... quite unusual.

The best English word for broad translation of kaabhohdh is probably "heft".
