Verbum 10: Catholic Encyclopedia and other Catholic Needs

Most likely, most of Verbum 10 will be the same at Logos 10, but what would you like to see in Verbum 10 that is unlikely to be included in Logos 10?

I would like to see the Catholic Encyclopedia given as much attention and care as the Catholic Topical Index and the Catechism. And I'd like to see it included in packages below Silver.

I have no requests that are specifically Catholic. What I want tends to be useful to a broader audience and changes depending upon what I am working on. My current off-the-top-of-my-head answer:

    • a separate sanctoral cycle calendar (fixed, yearly) for all relevant denominations from Uniting Church in Australia to Lutheran to Catholic.
    • the ability to add the sanctoral cycle to the radial calendar of the Sermon Manager
    • the addition of typology reference pairing as either its own section in the passage guide or as a separate relationship in the Important Passages section
    • the addition of lectionary data with the relationship of "shared liturgical date" to Important Passages section
    • addition of historical lectionaries without current calendar dates
    • a reworking of the handling of liturgical dates that recognizes they apply across denominations and across denominations - this would also decrease the maintenance costs for lectionaries.
    • the ability to easily specify the default Bible for each resource in the Information panel, to specify alternative Bibles used by the resource, and the ability in the popup for that resource to move easily between these Bibles + the default Bible. (To see the Bible in the version that the author of the book intended).
    • ability to report errors in the Factbook directly in Factbook
    • add the semantic roles back into Factbook
    • add non-Bible passages into Workflows and allow for multiple passages e.g. the standard Eastern Orthodox Bible Study Workflow should include at least a gospel and a sermon; lectionaries require the study of the relationships between multiple passages
    • allow users to create timeline links from resources
    • refine the selection options in the timeline with the intent to provide teachers with lesson-ready simple timelines
    • add the Season of Creation lectionary/calendar
    • add a bibliography section for authors in Factbook - not limited to Logos resources - for biography, works, studies.
    • add art, poetry, and hymns to Factbook with the perspective of the book Handmade Midrash where the arts are seen as a kind of commentary of scripture
    • tag the Bible study monographs -- by book, topic, essay collections -- in a manner similar to journals; add a guide section for them
    • add the Logos first use card help function to Verbum
    • add the Logos link to Faithlife groups function to Verbum
    • add the add to reading list option to Information panel
    • preserve all guide sections when a guide is used in both Logos and Verbum apps (it is very easy to use one for current version, the other for beta) or to switch between them to support forum users
    • create clip art for each lectionary/Bible pericopes for use in lessons, sermons, handouts
    • create a parallel to the pericopes tool for lectionary pericopes which can have gaps and overlaps
    • create a label with the standard hymn metadata that is used for searches and a guide section. The expectation would be that they be filled primarily by crowd-sourcing, Faithife would simply provide a few resources that are coded to seed the project.
    • sermon labels done by users are picked up for processing -- make this true of letters and journals. Provide the label format in a FL supplied label highlighting template.
    • Add search templates to the clause search; reinstate the old search cookbook help as a supplement to templates not a replacement for.
    • Add the clause search into the searches that can be combined (Bible, basic, morphology) and show the scope of the search on the search panel
    • Integrate the community tagging into the normal searches rather than appearing only when searching the specific dataset
    • Review, edit, and correct the Help file -- the L9 version was not well done while L8 was.
    • Upgrade the vocabulary card function to include any data cards the user may wish to add
    • Add grammatical and semantic role data to the Context Menu
    • Finish a lesson maker before L10 - it is already in progress according to feedback.
    • Finish the reclassification of monographs into separate categories and document the criteria for each category.
    • Add two more commentary categories - cantena and lectionary-based
    • Allow the user to specify the order of collections so that Text Comparison and Parallel Resource works as the user wishes
    • Include all Altas resources in the Atlas guide section
    • In the Lectionary guide section, sort results by denomination and date
    • Add entries to the Outline Section - I have over 4000 additional entries and use the section far less than I would like because it omits most detailed outlines. This is another possible crowd-sourcing item.
    • Open another period of time for composition dates in the Bible book browser ... especially to add deuterocanonical data
    • Expose more data in the Information Panel so that we can see if it is included in the outline data, the cross-reference data, automatic collections membership, denomination, commentary type, etc. We currently have to play time extensive games to prove an error exists to be reported.
    • Expand the basic tagging of person/place/thing/event to include the primary pseudepigrapha, apocrypha, Philo ... e.g. the book of Jubilees which ties into Genesis for character studies.
    • With > 560 Early Church Father resources available, it is time for the Church Fathers guide section to be sortable by era, heresy, language, Apostolic, Cappadocians, Desert Mothers and Fathers ...
    • Just as there is a Church Fathers guide section, create a Church Doctors section for the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Armenian, Assyrian Church of the East, Chaldean Catholic, Latin Catholic, Syro-Malabar Catholic . . .
    • Make the system provided collections e.g., Church Fathers, available for selection in the Search
    • Restore the more accurate data into Canon comparison - yes, I know who misled you. He was incorrect.
    • Allow the datasets to be displayed in the library - it would make it ever so much easier to walk new users through why a function does/does not work.
    • Update the Bible browser for topics and all new labels
    • And to have a classy feature for sales, present the Important Passages data in a chord diagram with standard data mining features

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

    • Correct and maintain the system provided collections.

I probably should have used a lowercase c instead of an uppercase C for "catholic"? The "old" resources are never outdated for the one-year liturgies? They are more helpful to me than the new three-year stuff. So much of what I want is no longer under copyright.

I really wish we could have a 1662 BCP with updated spelling. And have more hyperlinks or something.

I can't remember where I saw this suggestion, and searching the Forum still doesn't work in any useful way. But have been pleasantly surprised how useful I find the sacred art collections, since I work in media and publicity, and I saw someone mention an iconography collection to be added perhaps in Verbum 10. I would find this VERY helpful! Especially if it is as well catalogued as the old Verbum 6 sacred art collections are. Obviously, this isn't just a Verbum project; I am sure the Orthodox would love this too.

Quite true, even for historical interpretation.
