Help with Search (again)...

One of the continuing problems I have with searching in Logos.... is that no matter how I seem to approach searching or with what resources I use to do the searching... I have to additionally search through tons of results of the first search, just to find whatever it is I am looking for.  This takes a lot of my time...  and, sad to say, a lot of times... I just fire up WordSearch.... do my search and be done with it.

Let me give an example....

Say I want to search for the life and death of Joshua, assistant to Moses.

Now... would someone please show me how to find out that information without having to search, then re-search the results of the first search and even having to re-search the results of the 2nd or 3rd searches?

I'm not upset.... but I do get frustrated with searching in Logos as you can see.  I went through videos and read a lot about searching.... I guess I just cannot get it in my mind. And I'll admit.... I'm probably the problem.

If you open Factbook and type in Joshua and then select Joshua son of Nun, does this provide you what you want?

I'm not quite sure what you are looking for. Are you looking for Bible references that speak about events in the life (and death) of Joshua, commentaries that speak about these events, or something else?

One thing - particularly for the first option - that might be helpful is the Biblical Event Navigator Tool:

Ok, I've looked at both Factbook and Biblical Events Navigator.... nothing there....

My opinion.... the actual Search resource in Logos is so complicated... that even Logos recognized it and so created all these other "search resources" just to try to help users to find what they are looking for.....  when in reality... the Search resource needs work.

Sorry for venting.... I just don't understand how to search in Logos. My fault... seems like everyone else don't have a problem with it.

Edit: I have books, i.e. "All the Men of the Bible" by Lockyer.....and Joshua is listed in that book....  yet none of the searches found it. Again this makes me wonder about Search actually searching my repertoire that came from WordSearch.....hmmm

Edit 2:  How about this.....  How do I use Search, Factbook, or any of the guides.... to actually search EVERY book I have in my Library? I don't care how long it takes.... Can someone show me how to do that?   Pick a topic and show it please?   Thanks

I don't understand what you are looking for that isn't in one of the options given above. Please explain in more detail how they fail to provide what you want.

I'm just trying to learn how to Search....  watched most of the videos... read most of the Help pages I can find.... and yet I just can't get it. Sorry.

Here's a topic for you..... I would like to learn about Joshua... his life and his death. Any suggestions?

I would start with the factbook - there are two entries of interest. One on the man and one on the book that bears his name

    Err 1

A search for Joshua will give you all references to all mentions of anyone called by that name. <Joshua (Son of Nun)> will give you only references to the correct person but is limited to resources tagged for Biblical entities. The search is not intended to give general information. It is designed to answer specific questions.

    xnman,

MJ has written a number of posts that seem to cover searching from A-Z and beyond. I went through them one at a time and they really expanded my understanding of searching. It takes time and work, but I don't think you will be disappointed.

Here is a link to a good starting point: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/198380.aspx

The bread crumb trail to the next in the series is located near the top of each post.

    Good luck.

Hey all.... I read over my posts in this thread... and I apologize. My frustration showed. Please forgive me.

For whatever reason... I just can't seem to wrap my mind around it...  But I was not kind in my posts on this thread.

Sincerely, I thank you all for your help.  And I have gone through MJ's posts on the matter...

I'll do my best not to be like this again.

    Thank you.
