Slow Typing In Notes.

Folks,

As a disclaimer, I type between 120-176 words per minute and have already searched other forum posts for slow typing response in Logos 9 notes. I've also tried disabling hardware acceleration and restarting. Even typing more slowly I'm still presented with having to wait, and there being some lag.

I have included some of my specs here: Gigabit Internet (>900Mb/ps up/down, at least), Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00 (8-Core), 64 GB RAM, nVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, 2.5 TB Samsung SSD.

I am using the Logos 9 Desktop v9.13.0.0018.

I've also recorded a clip of the issue (apologies for the large resolution) here:

https://streamable.com/56dt3t

I've also included a clip of me typing in Notepad.exe for reference:

https://streamable.com/s3r3z8

As well as me typing in Logos with no Internet Connectivity (to try to eliminate that as a factor), as indicated by the red '!' in the top right of the Logos application window by where the synchronization icon would normally be:

https://streamable.com/nw80fi

Does anyone have a fix for this? A brother in the Lord and I are going through Psalm 119 and sharing notebooks via Faithlife Groups, so this is the primary way we're charting our course through Psalm 119 and if there's any way it could be sped up (even to the exclusion of other features) it would be wonderful.

Thank you!

In Christ,

Just a random thought . . . have you tried going into airplane mode?

Great thought! I just tried it, but it didn't work.

As I'm connected via Ethernet, I went to Start -> Run -> NCPA.CPL and simply disabled all of the network connections, just to be safe. Upon doing so, I noted that there was an '!' icon in the top-right of Logos, indicating that there was a synchronization issue. So the circling icon in the top right of the Notes pane must not merely be indicating synchronization over the Internet, but some other sort of synchronization or background processes within the Logos process must be at play here.

P.S. I also updated the original thread with the stream link to the testing I did on account of your suggestion. Thank you!

I have also been having the same issue - The Notes feature has become essentially unusable.

I'm running Logos 9.12.0.0017.  I have disabled hardware acceleration.   My laptop is a MS Surface Laptop 4, with 11th generation i7.

This phenomenon seems to be related to Notes only.  I can edit a clipping, or a prayer request without delays.  I've tried it with a brand new noteboook - no entries -  and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

The only thing that I have found that seems to make a difference is it that it is even slower when you turning off  the 'Use Internet' in Program Settings.  Don't know if that is a clue.

Any resolution on this? It has only happened to me when I upgraded to Logos 10 (sigh).

I'm using a Surface Pro 8 (i5, 8gb ram). Everything else seems to work fine but sermon notebooks respond so slowly to typing that they are virtually unusable.

Before upgrading this was not a problem at all - therefore it is not a hardware issue, it's a software issue.

Is Logos even aware of the problem?
Hope we can find a solution soon...

I have this identical problem. I also have upgraded to Logos 10, but I had the problem in 9. This was part of the reason I decided to go ahead and upgrade - hoping it would solve the problem.

Mine also only affects notes - not sermon documents or anything else. I have a good internet connection.

    I am on a MacBook Pro. i9 2.3 Ghz 8 core, 32 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD.

It is interesting to me that it occurs only in notes and affects both PC's and Macs the same - regardless of specs or internet connection. Perhaps they need to make the saving a little less aggressive for notes. I have not tried offline.

Update on this issue: I'm noticing it is more of a problem when I am using a Workflow. If I type the note entirely within the Workflow, it works correctly. If I expand notes to see the full notes window and the workflow is still open in a tab, then I will definitely have an issue. If I close the workflow so that only the notes is open, it works pretty well. It is still not perfect, but it is much more manageable. This is a good temporary workaround if you are having the same issue.

You will get a better response if you start a new thread in the Logos 10 forum.

I'm using Logos 10, but I believe this problem is similar on both 9 & 10. I was also having this issue after purchasing a new laptop this past week, but I believe I've found the solution. My new laptop has an 11th gen intel i7 processor. I was not having any issues on an older intel laptop, or on my desktop with an AMD processor. The new laptop, however, lagged considerably, and this was especially noticeable when typing (e.g. in the sermon editor, in notes, in search, etc.)

I discovered that the lag was somewhat less when I would lower my display resolution (from native 4k to 1080p). This leads me to suspect there's some kind of issue with Logos and newer 11th gen intel processors (probably moreso with the Iris Xe graphics on them).

The solution I found was to go into program settings and turn "Hardware Acceleration" to "On." I'm honestly not sure why it was set to "off" on my PC to begin with, but this has completely solved the problem for me.

I hope this helps some of you as well.

I am very frustrated with this.  I have a new Surface Pro 8 and every program works great.  Every aspect of Logos works fine.  But the Notes portion tries to sync after every letter I type and it lags.  I have turned on the hardware acceleration, restarted the computer, turned off the hardware acceleration, restarted the computer.  And NOTHING works.  It's almost unusable.  A Google search shows that this has been an issue for at least 12 years!  Why is this still a problem?

Doug, sorry you're still having trouble. Have you tried updating your Intel drivers from their website here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html

Doing this and then switching hardware acceleration on has solved this issue for me and several others.

I continue to experience this problem as well. I have tried all the things that have been suggested to no avail. I have a surface laptop.  If I turn on hardware acceleration,  it fails to paint the notes tab correctly. The tab starts empty and then fills in as I mouse over the section of the tab.  I have gone thru several version upgrades with some hope that the new version would solve this.  It has not.

I've stopped purchasing any additional resources from Logos as I have lost confidence that this issue is fixable.

When I have experienced this, I have found that a restart seems to help. Shut the program down and then reboot. Basic, I know, but it has worked for me.

That said, I have also almost stopped using Logos during the last couple of years. I use it on my tablet, mostly just for reading, but that's about it. The majority of my issues are with Notes as well...the list of problems is so long it's basically hopeless. I should be moving into my new place next week, and once I get my desktop operational again (dealing with failed mb and subsequent tpm issues that are infuriating), I am finally going to start a production phase--video and website--and Logos was supposed to be the foundation of all of that energy and effort. Instead, it is going to be the target of an unceasing stream of badmouthing. I still can't comprehend that a company can take nearly 50K from someone and then just allow the purchased product to dissipate and fester until it is effectively unuseable. It's depressing and unconscionable.

We want to make sure that everyone has a great experience in Notes. It seems there might be a couple issues going on here. The first one I want to address is related to 11th generation Intel processors on PCs. We have identified some issues with the way 11th generation Intel processors interact with the application. If you are having issues and are running an 11th generation, please follow the instructions listed here. Download Intel's Driver Assistant to update to the latest drivers. According to Intel, the issue we have identified should be fixed in version 27.20.100.9616.

However, I'm noticing a few comments in this thread that might not be due to the 11th gen Intel processor. If you are having issues and are not on an 11th generation Intel processor, or if you are having problems in notes with the latest drivers, please let me know. That will help us investigate those issues independent from the known Intel issue. Specifications, including CPU, GPU, and your Hardware Acceleration setting would be helpful. We have tried and failed multiple times to reproduce this issue in-house, so I suspect there is something unique to certain configurations that is leading to the issue. And the more user reports we can get, the easier it is to find trends that might lead to a solution.

If you are not sure which processor you are running, for PCs, you can find that information in Start > About Your PC. 11th generation Intel processors are typically named like i#-11###, where # is different depending on the exact model.

    Nick,

Well some good news - I was able to locate a BETA Intel driver for the Iris Xe graphics processor.  After loading this driver,  it seems to have fixed the problem.

My system is a Surface Laptop 4 and does have the Intel Gen 11 ( i7-1185G7) processor.  The symptoms were very slow refresh while typing in notes (1 character every two seconds kind of slow) when enable hardware acceleration was turned off.  With hardware acceleration turned on,  the notes panel would not display until you moused over it and would you could not type into it at all most times.

I had followed several threads trying different combinations of settings both in Logos and in the system, upgrading Logos version - no improvement found.  Reboots had no effect at all.

I had previously gone thru the Intel update drivers process a couple of times with no joy.   However, this time, I noticed there was a beta updates opt in in the settings page of the Intel Driver Update app.  I opted in to the beta updates and lo and behold there was a graphics driver beta update.  I installed it bringing my Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver to version 31.0.101.4148.  After rebooting and restarting Logos,  I can type at full speed in notes and there are no 'failure to paint the panel' issues that I can see.

You may want to let people know about the Beta option in the settings.  Hope this helps someone.

    Two thoughts.

While I'm grateful that this is now working on my system.  I do want Logos to know that none of the other 100's of programs that I run on my laptop have this issue or have needed a particular Intel driver to be loaded.   That seems to be an important question - What is it about Logo's development tool stack that is different and is it really necessary? Could a more 'standardized' note/typing codebase be used and sidestep these issues.

Also, it is hard to give Logo's a passing grade on customer service on this one.  I originally posted back in June of 2022 and to my knowledge,  no one from Logos/FL picked this up as an issue to work on until now (assuming Nick that you are with Logos).  As far as I know forums are the way we are to ask for help?

I'm very glad to discover that this worked for me as well! Hardware acceleration and updated drivers did not fix the problem separate from each other, but when they were both present, the issues I was experiencing completely went away. Thanks for posting this.

Was there something that helps with Mac in relation to this issue?  It's so frustrating?

It happens on Mac, iPadOS, and IOS.  The longer your note is the slower it gets in my experience.  No other application I have used has this same issue.

Greetings Dustin and welcome to the Forums.

If you are indeed still using Logos 9 then the first thing to do would be to update to the latest release; mine is 35.0.520.

If you are on that release you will get more traction if you post in the 'Logos Desktop App' forum. Fewer and fewer people can answer questions regarding the running of Logos 9 as they will have moved on.
