I have it on my ipad and in print

Ok John, now you've just stirred up more interest in getting an ipad... will this link into the webpage to listen to the narration? Can't wait until the Notes ship!!! I've been sitting on the fence when it comes to getting either an ipad or iphone.

It could be handy on logos though

Anything on logos is handy, but I'm too cheap to get it all, but the EVS will be a great tool.

Catching up on all the messages, the Forums really took off, more then I thought, with lots of good info to boot. And we have Andrew back too, good to see you Brother!

Yes, I have it (I mean the iPhone version) and it's great. The text
follows the narration voice reading. Perfect. But I need to have it in
Logos. I want to stop voice reading in the place I hear something what
interests me and start Bible Word Study right from the spot. You can do
that only in Logos. And you can continue with all the power of Logos
Library. That is the reason to have it in Logos with all the goods.
Before we have it in Logos (including the narration) I will keep my
iPhone ESV SB from Crossway [;)]

Thanks John, I guess I will have to start checking out the iphone and ipad... probably heavily favoring the ipad. Hope the good folks at Crossway will work with logos a bit better!

Exactly Boshslav! That's something that I would pay extra for, if Crossway and logos shared, or give permission to meld the products in our PC Bible software!

I currently use the "read" function at times, because it makes me read the text without distractions, so that I'm in a reading mode without stopping (the only way it's not irritating, with out thinking to myself "what did she say?"). I also have noticed that the reading function doesn't work with all of my books, and better with some then with others.

I'm still a big fan of playing my Bible cassettes while driving, so I can get the whole book in my head... great stuff to meditate with while stuck in traffic[:^)]. Did I just reveal how antiquated I am???

I have the printed ESV Study Bible, and hence online access to it also. I also have the Kindle version from Amazon (cheap). And every soon, I will have the Logos one!!!

Some time back, I purchased one of the spoken MP3s of the ESV from Crossways, as a download. I have them as files on my old Nokia phone, so I can hear them when waiting, with little else to do whie waiting for a train/bus etc.

I got a very basic Windows program working, using the COM API feature of the Logos 4.1 Beta, so I could jump around in the ESV in Logos, and my WIndows Media Player would automatically jump to the correct MP3 file, and within about 1 verse. The MP3 would play whatever verse I jumped to, and the screen would update after every verse, so the audio and text would follow along.

I expect others would value such  thing, so after Logos 4.1 goes Gold (Release), subjct to interest and my "free time", I will explore making this work more solid so those wanting it could also use it. They would each need to purchased the MP3 set from Crossways of course (and have ESV in Logos).

Better would be if Logos added "Recorded Audio Bible" support directly into the core product, so anyone could use any recorded Bible they cared to purchase/obtain. All it would need is a "config" file that linked MP3 file names to Book/Chapter, and maybe some timing data, so the verses in the audio track within Logos4 is a little closer. For now, I just scale the verse-count of a chapter against the time play-time for the chapter, so its close, but not perfect.

    1) Bring on EVS Study Bible for Logos ...

EDIT: The above is full of grammer/spelling errors. Such is life ... [:)]

Hello all.  Not into posting that much but I do have a question from this discussion.

When reading the ESV or any Bible from the Logos.com site, how to you turn on the narration?

I have tried the computer voice with Logos but some of the pronunciation is lacking.

    Thanks for your help.

Larrie; I have tried the computer voice with Logos but some of the pronunciation is lacking.

Logos' computer animated voice is what it is Larrie. The ESV Study Bible ( hard copy ) when purchased, comes with a code that gives you access to an online version of the Bible. It is a great site and has a very nice narration of the Bible.  I have Logos 4 and assume that you have one the Logos products as well. Hope this helps.

I don't have this resource so I don't know how it works, but the notes are a separate resource right? Why can't Logos just incorporate it into the footnotes of the regular ESV after every verse? Then it could just pop up in the power lookup window.

I'm guessing it will be like other study bible notes, which are all separate resources. They can be linked with the Bible they are associated with (by setting them both on the same Link Set) and then it's just like having the Power Lookup Window along side scrolling together (only it would be faster than PL). Probably the reason they don't encorporate it into the existing ESV is so as not to affect people who have the ESV but are not buying the study notes.

Blane is correct. Logos does not have any real narration for any of the Bible versions it ships, just the computer text-to-speech voice that comes with Windows, which as you've discovered is less than satisfactory. Some people have been able to find third-party voices to add to their Windows setup which are better than the built-in ones. Here's some info about where to find those voices: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/8523/67864.aspx#67864

They could just make an entirely separate resource with the ESV in it.

Hopefully it will be just much more than the pop-up notes and incorporate all lthe maps, charts etc which would not go so well in pop-ups but I can see what you are saying would be advantageous to moblie users.  It has been done with the NET Bible so its not a new concept.

I only have a few Study Bibles in Logos. Are there some that are only popups?

NET Bible is the  only at this stage....  and it comes in both a specially created bible with the notes in pop-ups and as a separate resource file, but it has been produced by a third party. The nature of NET lends itself to this sort of presentation,  ESV Study Bible and the majority of others incorporate charts and illustrations  and so are probably better handle by having separate resources where this features can be at the forefront rather than hidden away in a pop-up you might miss - but I can see a case where a pop-up version would be great for mobile users so its a shame that the ESV Study Bible doesn't follow the model done so well by NET/ Galaxie.  And if the charts etc were hidden away in pop-ups attention could be brought to them by using the power look-up, but this feature would probably need some optimisation to make it a viable option.

For those who might not be familiar with NET, these are the options that are available:

Edit Note: Hover / Click works the same for the stand alone study bible notes but I didn't show the lines etc....

I'm sure there is other's out there I don't have, but most of the study bibles I have would have been acquired as part of  the Thomas Nelson  e-Bible Platinum Package.

Lutheran Study Bible http://www.logos.com/products/details/6398 shows up as a separate resource.  It is merely the study notes, but when you click on it, you get only the study notes.  You have to click on the separate ESV to get the Bible verses.

Of course, what I have done, is to link the LSB with the ESV, so that each time I look up something, the LSB synchronizes to that exact spot.  Seamless, so I hardly notice they are not the exact same resource.

By the way, I do this with commentaries, so that I can jump from one to another.  What a great feature.  Go Logos!

Yes what you are describing is the standard way Study Bibles work in  Logos and on the desktop I like the ways it works but for mobiles users I am sympathetic.. I will be one someday.

Soon we'll be able to enjoy the benefit of linking all three.....

I am curios about this as well. I don't think the NET Bible graphics ever made it in... But maybe last nights updates account for the additions? I just don't know...

Since this product has just gone live, all the orders do need to be processed in the system and once that takes place, you will be able to download the books.

    Thanks!

I'm still running libronix 3, but I must say the ESV study notes is AWESOME.  It is the best bible commentary to go along with bible reading outside one's technical research such as exegetical.  I almost canceled on this long, long awaited pre-pub, but I am glad I withstood my last minute reservations.  I have had this bible in DTV for some time, but Logos has greatly enhanced my benefit.  Complimentary to the ESV study notes, I am partial to MacArthurs and Believer's Bible Commentaries.  What compliments!  I know this sounds crazy, but the ESV study notes ranks in its niche way with BDAG.  ENJOY!!!!
