Error in ESV Reverse Interlinear, John 1:34 "Son of God" ?

The ESV reverse interlinear, for the word "Son" in John 1:34 indicates there is no Greek word corresponding to the word "Son".

I checked both the Nestle Aland 26th and Scrivener’s Textus Receptus (1881), and both these for John 1:34 use the Greek word "huios".

I am aware that, for John 1:34, there is a textual variant - where the alternate text uses the word "eklektos".

Hence, my query is: how come the Logos Reverse Interlinear uses this alternate rather than following the NA26? What Greek text is used for the Logos Reverse Interlinear?

My assumption was that a Logos Reverse Interlinear would use the exact text that was used to translate that particular Translation, i.e. Nestle Aland for ESV, and Textus Receptus for NKJV etc.

But seeing the above makes me realise that I should not have assumed that.

My assumption was that a Logos Reverse Interlinear would use the exact text that was used to translate that particular Translation, i.e. Nestle Aland for ESV, and Textus Receptus for NKJV etc.

Because translators choose among variants there is no such thing as "the exact text that was used to translate that particular translation". The Reverse interlinear section of the Information panel for the translation gives you the text to which the translation has been aligned.

Yes - but the ESV preface has:

The ESV is based on the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible as found in Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (5th ed., 1997), and on the Greek text in the 2014 editions of the Greek New Testament (5th corrected ed.), published by the United Bible Societies (UBS), and Novum Testamentum Graece (28th ed., 2012), edited by Nestle and Aland

Similarly, in a few difficult cases in the New Testament, the ESV has followed a Greek text different from the text given preference in the UBS/Nestle-Aland 28th edition.

So while there are some variants, the base is clearly NA28.

I will admit to finding it strange that Logos standardizes on a particular Greek text irrespective of what was used as the base by translators. Even though I understand it makes their job a lot easier!

As stated above SBLGNT is used for ESV RI, so "Son" appears to be inserted because of SBLGNT's preference for Greek "chosen one".

NKJV uses Scrivener's TR, so "Son" can be aligned to "huios".
