Liturgy of the Hours Feedback needed

I'm starting to explore options to make the LOH less intimidating to use. While the Reading List is not on my mental list of potential solutions, could you play with this and see if you have all the information you need to pray the hour? or do you need the elements broken down further and things like the gloria actually inserted. This makes a difference on how/if it could be moved into lectionary form.  Thanks for trying this out either in Verbum or directly on the web.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Thank you for this MJ.  It is a great start.  There are so many variables with the Liturgy of the Hours (LOTH) that I don't know if everything could be addressed, for example I use the Roman-Franciscan Guide.  So definitely a stick to the basics attitude.  You might want to consider adding a link to the Proper of Seasons, The Ordinary, Proper of Saints, and The Commons.  These could be useful for those unfamiliar with the LOTH...especially to The Ordinary.

Again, thanks for beginning to look at this...seems like a daunting task to me.

    God bless,

  • I purchased the 4 volume English version when Verbum initially offered it.  I see it's not currently offered.  I REALLY want to be able to do this simply in Verbum - as simply as Universalis.   Until FL offers this, IMHO Verbum is just Catholic veneer on a Protestant product.   The 4 volume set I bought from FL is actually LESS useful than the physical 4 volume set I own.  I just purchased the little physical St. Joseph's guide booklet for the 2024 liturgical year as I have for many years.   If Verbum even just offered THAT and I could click on the links and have them open in the Verbum 4 volume LOTH set I own it would actually bring some use to those Verbum volumes.

Come on FL - Universalis figured it out.  Why in the world can't you?

Relative to MJ - I still find the little loose guide to the general format of the hours that came with the 4 volume physical set I own very useful.  Using that and the ribbons it's possible to do a reasonably accurate job of praying the hours correctly.  So for me, even after many years I would prefer the elements broken down and things like the gloria actually inserted or referenced (hyper link or physical page reference).
