Returning to Logos/Verbum
Hi,
I am in my eighties and for years I used Logos/Verbum, concentrating on the Greek NT. But recently I stopped using the program, as I felt I was not making progress and now want to focus on learning details with more accuracy and focusing on the English Bible, essentially psalms.
But I have many problems and would welcome interactions and suggestions.
- When I start Verbum I get several pages briefly before getting the start-up Layout. How do I avoid this?
- My software is 26.1.32, but I bought on 4/9/21 ‘Verbum 9 Basic Library Upgrade’ ($50). I have Feature Set ‘All Logos 8 features’ and Base Package Library ‘Verbum 7 Library’. Should I get upgrade to Logos/Verbum 10, especially as video clips seem to refer to it? I had a package for Original Languages, which no longer exists, and many resources I bought, should I stay with this or upgrade?
- As most learning clips refer to Logos/Verbum 10, what learning/training features would you recommend?
- I do hope to get in new contact and discussion as very many of my friends, including Bible partners, are no longer alive, and I feel somewhat isolated.

Well, welcome back!!
First, assuming your PC is not older, Logos automatically updates to the latest version (a recent change). It's free. That's if, in settings you didn't earlier tell it not to. No need for more money.
The stuff in front on entry 'sounds like' the Home Page showing. But it shouldn't, if you're starting with a layout. That may need some discussion (what does it look like, etc).
And 80s, huh? That's good news for everyone!

DMB, many thanks for your encouraging reply. I use version 26.1.32 on a laptop bought in 2017.
My start screen is below. I hope it is clear.

It you want to include a screenshot you will need to use the paperclip icon to attach it. The amber icon next to it presumably works as well but I've never tried it.

On pasting in screencopies, you use the little paperclip, in the bar above where you're writing your post. It's not obvious.
But if you know your Windows version, you can check here:

If you're too old (smiling) for the current version, you might look at:

Noel,
Regarding your startup, it sounds like you want the app to open to a consistent, simple view. You can probably accomplish your goal by going to Program Settings, and right near the top (under General), select something appropriate for "At Startup Open to...". You may want "Home", or "Blank Layout" or possibly some other defined layout you have - you can pick any from the list you get. If you need to brush up on Layouts, you can check out https://www.logos.com/features/layouts .
Regarding software version, the 26.1.32 version you're running is the current Logos/Verbum 10 version, which was released on July 5th, so your system is keeping up-to-date.
If you have one of the old Original Languages packages, plus the Logos 8 full feature set, plus one of the Verbum 7 base packages, you already possess a very powerful Bible study tool. Whether you'd do well to purchase any additional features or resources really depends entirely on what more you want to have/do.
It seems unlikely you'd need any new features to focus on studying the Psalms in English. Whether you have the translations, commentaries, etc. that you need/want is an open question, but it sounds like you're not lacking. If you wanted recommendations for commentaries or other works specific to the Psalms to beef up your library, I'm sure folks would be happy to chime in with their own favorites, but you're probably in a good position to just dive in, given your past purchase history.

Regarding software version, the 26.1.32
I didn't even notice; I'm still a Logos 10 person!

Thanks very much to all who replied to me. I am very grateful and am following the advice I got, as best I can, and making progress.

All my siblings and all but one of my cousins are in their 80's . . .
When I start Verbum I get several pages briefly before getting the start-up Layout. How do I avoid this?
You should get a splash screen and a preparing library screen. The first is very brief, the second varies depending on the state of your library. You can't avoid them.

I'd wait and see what features you find you need for the Psalms.
As most learning clips refer to Logos/Verbum 10, what learning/training features would you recommend?
I always recommend the training from Frs, Devin Roza and Andrew Dalton. But depending on your learning style, you may want to simply start digging in and asking questions on the forums for us to point you to more specific training. For a start see Psalms Explorer Interactive – Logos Help Center
