Is it possible to create a visual filter that would highlight all Aramaic texts in my BHS?
Next question: would it also be possible to create a similar visual filter that highlights all passages in English Bibles that are translated from Aramaic?
Probably telling you what you already know. And I have my Logos uninstalled, so just memory. Hopefully someone else.
1. By and large, right-clicking a BHS word will list what is searchable (left-column). It combines what's in the resource (indices), with installed datasets.
2. Querying an OL popup text can't guarantee the popup comes from the resource. This is a problem, with apparatus popups. Logos can actually pull them from a separate apparatus resource. So, any proposed VF for popups often may have to be attached to the apparartus resource (headachy).
I don't remember there being a language dataset (only figurative/metaphor/etc). And I don't know a good work-around. Usually aramaic is discussed at verse-level, not lemma (eg a verselist). It's conceivable to VF a lexicon relative to language, and then link to the BHS. But that wouldn't answer your desired highlighting.
I only did the search, but in my thinking
morph.sesb.a:V???????+S OR morph.sesb.a:N????+S OR morph.sesb.a:J???+S OR morph.sesb.a:D OR morph.sesb.a:A OR morph.sesb.a:C OR morph.sesb.a:X+S OR morph.sesb.a:I+S OR morph.sesb.a:G OR morph.sesb.a:P+S OR morph.sesb.a:R?????+S
should work to highlight all Aramaic texts in BHS (those are all selectable morph-codes for Aramaic with placeholders for specific entries). It finds hits in 269 verses:
single words, like/only the first hit in Gen 31, single verses like/only the second hit in Jer 10 and the well-known passages in Daniel and Ezra
EDIT:would it also be possible to create a similar visual filter that highlights all passages in English Bibles that are translated from Aramaic?
If the bible has a reverse interlinear, you can run kind of the same search against it:
morph.a:J OR morph.a:D OR morph.a:A OR morph.a:C OR morph.a:X OR morph.a:I OR morph.a:G OR morph.a:N OR morph.a:U OR morph.a:P OR morph.a:R OR morph.a:V (which is the same idea in the Logos Aramaic morphology) - it will find the same results e.g. in LEB.
Otherwise you might be able to filter against a passage list created from either of the above.
Thanks NB.Mick, that works for me!
Very interesting. Thanks for both the question and the answer.
Muchas gracias, excelente!!!
