BUG corrupting mobile notes (33.0.0 Build 1330000021)

Under the "Emphasis Markup" palette there is a style named "Newline Before And After".  When I create a highlight using that style in the Desktop Beta app, it syncs to the mobile notes, but does not include the Bible reference and does not show up in the Bible text.

Replication (one example test I did for this post):

In the Desktop Beta version 33.0 RC 2 (33.0.363):

  • Open Legacy Standard Bible
  • Go to Mark 2:26
  • Highlight the word "priests" using the "Newline Before And After" style.

The note looks correct in the desktop Notes tool and displays correctly in the Bible text.

Give it a moment to sync to the Mobil app.

In the Mobile Notes tool, in the Anchors section, the note only shows "LSB" with no Bible reference and it says "the man" was highlighted, not "priests".

If I highlight the word "Abiathar" in the same verse in the mobile Notes tool, using the same highlight style,

  • In the Desktop system the note looks correct and displays correctly in the Bible text.
  • In the Mobile system, the note looks correct, but does not display in the Bible text.

I have made a few highlight styles based on the "Newline Before And After" style and they behave the same way. (Some inserting the newline only before and some only after.)

I have dozens of notes that these highlight styles were used in and all have the same symptoms.

NOTE - Is this only a display issue or are the notes corrupted?

  • I am concerned that when this is fixed, will it sync the correct information from the desktop notes tool to the mobile notes tool so that the corrupted notes in the mobile app don't corrupt the Desktop notes?
  • How can I make sure the notes are correct in both systems after the fix is applied?

I can't reproduce this on my iPhone (currently running 33.0.0 of the mobile app). What phone are you using and which version of the mobiile app

One thing - you note anchor will only show as LSB if the book is not downloaded. If you don't have it downloaded, try downloading it and see if anything changes.

    Hi Graham,

Thank you for looking at this.

LSB was installed, so I thought I would remove the book and re-downloaded it.  When I went to "Book Info" to do that, I saw an option to Update the book.  I never saw that before!  Don't books automatically update?

After updating the book it works fine!  (Now I'm checking all my downloaded books.)

    Thank you for your help.

FYI, the Lexham Bible Dictionary also needed to be "Updated"!!  33 others were okay.

    Hi Tim

After updating the book it works fine!

    That's good to hear

I had assumed they updated automatically but I vaguely remember a discussion about this in the past, so I'm not sure.

It would be nice if books were automatically updated when your data is synced, or at least provide some visible notification when a book needs to be updated.

Thanks again for your help.  Have a blessed Lord's day.
