BUG: Restoring minimized window changes window position

Description

When restoring a non-maximized window, it reappears about the height of the window title bar higher. (This may be a Windows 7 issue). This does not happen, if the window was maximized prior to minimizing it.

Steps

(1) Have L4 open anywhere on the desktop, just not maximized

(2) Minimize window (either by clicking on the window button or the L4 icon in the task bar)

(3) Restore window (by clicking on the L4 icon in the task bar)

Result

L4 re-appears but several pixel (about the height of the window title bar) higher. This is especially a nuisance if the window was already sitting at the screen, because then the title bar is off screen.

This only happens the first time around. Subsequent minimize/restore actions leave the window in the same position. Until the window is moved or changed in size...

System

L4 Beta 5, Windows 7, SyncMaster 206BW (1680 x 1050 pixel)

I think that this is actually by (bad) design. I have noted this - or to be more precise, complained about this. I included screen shots of how it interferes with my task bar placement at the top of the screen. I have received no response about this issue.

Are you still having problems with the taskbar placed at the top of the screen? I think some code was written in Beta 3 to attempt to solve this problem (but it sounds like it didn't?). I'll refer the developer who worked on it to this thread.

    Yep. Same problem.

On my notebook, the program restores to a position in which the title bar is off the top of the screen. There is no way to drag it back to the main window area: I have to run the window on maximised or shut it down and start again.

The program should simply remember where I placed the window.

    Hi Damian,

I had a similar problem in an earlier beta, & I remembered an ancient Windows technique for recovery if your mouse goes out... It's even easier if you have a mouse. So, this has already been tested & works on an off-screen L4 window that got lost.

Wherever you have all the icons for open windows on your screen (mine is at the bottom of the screen), right click on it. You should get an option that includes minimize, maximize, close, and MOVE. Select Move. Then you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to bring the window back to where you can use the mouse again.

    Blessings!

    Grace & Peace,
    Bill

Er... right click on the icon for the open L4 window that's off screen. Sorry, should have been clearer.

Thanks Bill. You were clear enough the first time for me. Works a treat. Still annoying....

Yep, annoying... but if there's ANYTHING we can do to avoid a reboot, it's worth sharing. :-)
