What is a Reference List in Accordance?

    Hi Graham,

If I have a bunch of verses I can say "select all --> new reference list" and it adds ONLY the references to a list I can rename.

Then I can open a new group of verses and tell Accordance to show me all of the verses in the new list, but ignore all the verses that are on both the new list and the reference list, as one example. I don't know how everyone uses it, but I mainly use it to compare and contrast verses.

My goal had to to create a list of the Logos verses, then compare it against Accordance. We know that Heb 13:5 is a discrepancy, but I was wanting to compare them more in depth.

Passage list in Logos = Reference list in Accordance.

    Hi John,

Hopefully this is correct. I was working with the Passage list in Logos last night and got so frustrated I finally needed a break. So far they are not the same thing, as I can only copy the Greek, but not copy only the verses. The reference list in Accordance is only verses. It has also been sort of frustrating since just right clicking and copying anything seems to often be disabled. It is so basic, but if I right click my only option is "Send to Proclaim" and I can't figure out how to turn this off.

As a dual platform Logos/Accordance user, I have found parts of this thread fascinating regarding some of the technical differences at a granular level. It is cool to see the platforms put through their paces by fairly demanding users. Nice.

I feel that way too. :)

As a dual user, although 90 Acc and 10 Logos, I am interested in knowing what one or the other can do that the other cannot, just so I know my options. I have always felt, without hard data due to my newness, that it is like the Chevy/Ford/Dodge debates, where they all do the main things needed, but each may have some unique bell or whistle. I am following this thread, listening for the whistles ... on either side.

Did you click on "Compact" to just get the verses?

it would be awesome if someone familiar with both apps could create a list of equivalents

Nathan posted a long list on the Accordance forums a few months ago. (Hopefully it's ok to link that. If I'm breaking any rules, let me know and I'll remove it.)

I rarely use the passage list so I am not sure that this is what you are looking for but I "Think" this might help.

Try using the merge function of the passage list. See the attached screen shot.

    If I understand correctly you have 2 lists A & B.

You want to see all items that are in A but NOT in B, correct? If so then this should do it.

    Hi Roy,

Thank you for the screenshot. I have three main points / questions:

    1) I can't even find the picture you are saying, as the "Add / Merge / Sort / Open All" is not a toolbar I see anywhere. I am on the "Morph" tab, but no matter where I click, I don't see that.

    2) As I flip around to the tabs, I can hardly think straight since 90% of the screen is taken up with this explanation junk. I can understand it showing it once, but it shows up on EVERY tab and opens EVERY TIME I do anything and I can't find my actual work. I wind up needing to repeatedly do the "search" to make it go away. The explanations on this block of info isn't even clear, and sort of assumes the person has already been using Logos for awhile. Is there a way to get rid of this?

    3) Well, ya, I do want to see everything in A, but not B, but the problem is that A is in Accordance and B is in Logos. So I wanted a pure reference list that I could manually add and compare the two. The Logos way seems to take a lot of control away from the user which doesn't seem good.

This is an option in a Passage List, not in a Search tab

This will appear on all blank Search tabs - but only there. If you don't want to make use of the information - and I rarely do - you can just ignore it and enter the search term you want

Does this work - starting from the morph search we were discussing earlier?

This generates a Passage List from the morph search - with the resultant Passage List shown on the left. If you just want to see the verses, click the Compact button

It seems you'd want to Print/Export the passage list (which also will export to the clipboard to paste it into a spreadsheet program or whatever tool you like to use for comparison). If it is in Compact format it will just be a list of unformatted bible references.

    Hi NB. Mick,

Thank you for the idea. Where is the Print option? If I right click, it just wants me to "Send to Proclaim" and that is my only option. (On a side note, is there a way to get rid of this in settings? I don't use Proclaim).

I don't see a "Compact" view. I only see Narrow, Normal, or Broad, but perhaps this changes when you get to the print section.

Please post a screenshot showing which tab you are referring to.

What you are describing relates to a Search panel whereas the things we are referring to are in a Passage List.

Again, please post a screenshot. Send to Proclaim is an option in certain contexts, but I'm not sure where you are seeing it here.

I respectfully disagree with that description. :) The info is only there if you haven't done a search on that tab, and I find it really helpful since I don't know all the syntax yet for the search commands. It's nice to have the guides there as a reminder.

Ooh, these buttons on the Search tab just solved some frustration. They toggle case-sensitive (brothers vs Brothers) and multiple forms (love, loves, loved) limits on the search term. (I was getting only case-sensitive returns and didn't know why.) Kinda like the =abc and "abc" on Accordance except that for some reason I can never remember how to format those correctly. This is a little more obvious to me. It gets a little more complicated if you have multiple terms and want different degrees of stringency, but quotes and asterisks seem to work in Logos too. Cool.

    Hi NB. Mick,

Thank you for the idea. Where is the Print option?

In the panel menu (some call it kebap menu: the three vertically stacked dots on the top right of the Passage List tab - or any other tab for that matter)

this sounds as if you're not in a Passage List at all, but still in Search. It's in the Passage List on the top right of the list of verses:

EDIT: Just for the sake of those looking on and asking themselves, how to get a Passage List from search results: it's in the panel menu of the Search tab:

It's like a Bible software family reunion! ❤️

As I said in an earlier post, Logos is the only Bible software platform I recommend. And I don't say that because I work for them. The fact that I work for Logos is my ultimate endorsement.

Logos is such a great and tremendous platform for Bible study, professional studies, sermon prep, devotional meditation, and so much more. It's been fun to read through these posts and watch all the wonderful discoveries being made about how powerful and capable Logos actually is.

Let me make a suggestion. If you have a friend or colleague who could benefit from Logos--regardless of whether they're using some other Bible software platform or not--I encourage you to tell them about our current "Farewell Tour" sale.

    https://www.logos.com/feature-upgrades

Honestly, I have not seen a better "deal" for buying into Logos. You can save up to 50% off the regular price of any of our Logos 10 Base Packages--Standard, Academic, or Faith Traditions.

[And as an aside, can I say, that this is a much better offer than any of the "switcher" deals we offered when I worked for the other guys 😉 ]

Spread the word about Logos. Tell your friends, colleagues, family and church members. Send emails, private messages, call them up, or tell them face to face. Now is the time to come to Logos. No one wants to miss out on these current deals!

Let's get excited about Bible software again!

    Hi Graham,

I am sorry for the delay in my response. Attached is a screenshot of the "Bible" tab, but if I move to any other tab, it basically looks the same. I can attach a screenshot.

    Hi Jonathan,

That is not the case for me. On my end, if I do a search, I get my results. Then if I leave the tab and come back, that window of tips shows up and that is all I see. I have to press enter AGAIN for it to run the search AGAIN just to get rid of that box.

As an example, look at the screenshot I just posted to Graham. Now I am moving to "Morph" and I have obviously already done this search as I have been talking about the results of it. However, that tip box is there, so the only thing I can do is press enter AGAIN which will re-run the search. I have done this morph search at least 15 times just getting rid of the tip box.

That is a Bible tab within a Search tab/panel. The ability to change the format is just below the book title in the results passages-aligned-grid-analysis-fuzzy and at the far right add version.

I think we're struggling with Logosese. It took me a bit to figure out the disappearance.

You're talking within a search tab, and the search-types-line (I made that up)? And yes, you're right ... the search tab only retains in-view results, unless saved out (passage list, export, etc).  I solve that by having multiple search tabs. I typically keep 5 in my layout (which retains results as you're wanting).

Your screen capture shows multiple search tabs, so I may be off-base still!
