Ai Credits Question

I see that there is a limit to the number of AI searches per month. Is there any way to know how many AI credits I have so that I can be using the service wisely? I have just been trying the service to see how it functions and may have wasted valuable credits.

We don't have those figures yet. Each subscription level has a number of credits. And the program will only warn you that you've used too much when you've reached 80% of the credits, if I'm not mistaken (correct me).

I believe you are correct. I have reached 80% of my credits and when I contacted support to get some idea of how that could occur, to give me some idea of what processes used more credits than others they advised were unable to access any data about that. It would be more effective in the future if we could see usage in real time, or at least by the day or something like that.

I also believe that if there were a counter (even hidden in a menu) it would be more transparent and we could manage our usage better, especially now with the use of AI for search and other functions that also consume credits. We never know how far we can go.
I, for one, have consumed a lot of credit testing new features. So far I haven't run out. The only time I used up translation credits was in 2023 when I tried reading an entire 120-page book through the translator. It wasn't until the end of the month (with 3 days left to renew the credits) that I ran out. I also used it for other smaller translations during the month.

So, for my current use, there seems to be plenty of translation credit. But it would be nice to be able to count how much we consume in translation and AI. It would be great if what we didn't spend in one month could remain as a “balance” for another month when we use a lot more.

This would be excellent. I remember some phone plans being like that before all the unlimited plans came out. If it's already paid for in the subscription price, carrying the balance forward makes sense.

How do you disable IA credits. I find it useless and It is obviously a set up for extra costs in the future. When you use up the credits, they will start charging you to buy more. just a money grab. if it was not a future money grab, credits would be unlimited. I don't use them as AI is just another fancy word for FACTBOOK.

We can’t disable AI credits - but if you don’t use any of the AI capabilities, you won’t use any credits.

If this is similar to the chatbots, the problem with tracking AI credits is the amount of information it has to process. This means every search will use a different amount of credits based on what is asked and what is the pericope of the search. For example, a question about the doctrine of God may have more information it has to process than a search for a Bible verse. The same is true for translating, a couple of sentence will use less than a paragraph or more at a time. Words themselves can influence amount of credits taken. Larger words will take more than smaller words. With this in mind, it is difficult to tell someone a standard of how many credits will be taken because there is more to the situation than meets the eye.

The problem is there are a lot of things that incorporate the AI: Some of the searches, translating, and so on. To remove it would remove features.

This is not how AI credits are implemented in Logos. Each feature uses a fixed number of credits (based on the complexity of that feature).

I don’t know about that. It’s possible, but doubt it. I think AI in some ways will become cheaper in terms of its use. It is still new and once it has become established it could come down in price. However, it could become more expensive in terms of its ability, the more it is able to do could raise the cost. It could go either way.

You may be right, but Logos in and of itself is a powerful software that doesn’t need us to use AI. If you run out, which is unlikely unless you use AI everyday multiple times a day, you will be fine with the software itself. There would be nothing to worry about.

My worry is the Logos subscription price going up in general. That’s what all the other subscriptions have done. I understand their concern about us using in-house services such as cloud-based features or third party services such as AI. Someone does have to foot the continual bill on that. It’s the hook and sinker that I’m worried about. What kind of profit are they looking for. Maybe that’s what you are worried about as well. The only thing that made me comfortable on subscription was the Legacy Fallback License.

The credits are in place to ensure fair use of the system, not as a way to drive additional revenue. (You'll note that there's not actually any way to buy more credits.) From our FAQ:

To ensure a fair level of access for every user, each subscriber gets a fair usage limit on AI tools each month. The limits are generous—typically, we allow thousands of uses of AI features each month before you hit the limit.

The subscription plans include enough credits to make ample use of the AI features and only a small handful of customers ever hit the limit.

Are you sure you never use any features that consume AI credits? These include Smart Searching, Article Summarisation, Sermon Assistance, Auto-Translate, the Insights sidebar.

You will not be charged fees if you run out of AI credits. Instead, you will simply be unable to use AI features until the credits refresh, which happens monthly. It is easy to inadvertently use AI credits.

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know. So we can know everything then, how much our credit limit is and how much each feature uses to accomplish our task. It is possible for us to calculate what we use to be better stewards of what we are paying for.
