Has anyone purchased a foreign language (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, or Korean) base package in a language they do not know and found enough value in it by using using the translation tool to justify the cost?

    Hello Chad

I don't know if this will be of any help as I'm only partially answering your question.

Some time ago I got one of the German base packages and found more than fair value in it. I have to qualify this by saying that my home language gives me some understanding of German, so I can for instance see what a particular book is about without using a translation tool. However, for anything more than that I think using the translation tool is essential, especially given the sometimes technical or academic language one encounters in theological books (I've previously used Google Translate).

    Regards

As far as I can tell, much of what is currently in the foreign language base packages duplicates (in a foreign language) what is currently available in an English language base package (in English).

    Hello Chad

I have not checked to see what is being offered at present. However, upon checking today what was added to my L10 Silver library when I got the Logos 9 (Deutsch) package just more than 3 yrs ago, I found more than 30 German-language resources, some of which I've listed below.

    • some of Kroeker's works including
      • Amos un Hosea
      • Daniel als Staatsmann und Prophet
      • Jesaia der Ältere
      • Das Königtum und die Theokratie in Israel
    • Thomas a Kempis' Die Nachfolge Christi
    • a couple of Delitzsch's works
    • 2 editions of the Bible reading plan of the Ecumenical Association for Bible reading (AOB)

    I trust that helps.

    Kind regards,

    Colin.

Hmm, not really.  I have a huge Spanish library and English both totaling 24k+ resources and a lot of material in Spanish is the Spanish version of an already existing work in English and sometimes the translation doesn't quite match.  Other Spanish titles are totally different, but I know both languages to translate or have Word translate and I just proof-read and make corrections.  I don't know if this would help...

Thanks, Colin. Of the Kroeker works you mentioned, it appears only "Daniel als Staatsmann und Prophet" is currently available for purchase through Logos. I already have an English translation of Kempis' "The Imitation of Christ" as well as several of Delitzsch's works.

Thanks, DAL. It's helpful to see what others are doing.

    Hello Chad

While not listed on the English Logos site, the Kroeger works are all still available on the German site, individually and also as part of the "The Living Word: Interpretation Series on the Old Testament" - in the German basic package it is titled "Das lebendige Wort: Auslegungsreihe zum Alten Testament". This is also listed as a free item here:

    https://www.logos.com/product/168929/das-lebendige-wort-auslegungsreihe-zum-alten-testament

You can see the list of what is included in the free German basic version here:

Thank you, Colin. I was able to get "The Living Word: Interpretation Series on the Old Testament" series for free. Apparently, the free German basic version is showing as "currently not available for sale".

Interesting...I just checked (without logging in under my profile) and it is shows as available. Perhaps it has to do with country settings, with some products not being available in some countries.

Logos Basic – die kostenlose Bibel-App

    Hi Jan

I don't know about how it works with the Bible App, but before sending my earlier message, I logged in to the de.logos.com website, searched for Logos 10 Basic, and when the results were displayed, I clicked on the L10 Basic link (https://de.logos.com/product/228495/logos-10-basic) (slightly different from your https://de.logos.com/basic ).

I was able to place the L10 Basic into a shopcart, together with 3 other items (all free) and checkout. I did not have to sign up for any newsletter. I received the order confirmation listing all 4 items including:

    Logos 10 Basic (Deutsch)

    381100

    1

    $0.00

I then went to my Logos Desktop App and the items all downloaded fine (excluding of course the ones I already had in my collection as part of my previously "bought" L10 Basic (Deutsch).

However, after receiving your message, to test I created a new logos account and attempted to do the same. This time around it shows the product as being only available as part of another collection, and you can't add it to a cart. I don't know when that change occurred. Is it too much of a conspiracy theory to think that perhaps someone saw that Basic was still available in the German store and decided to remove the purchasing option? [:)]
