Newbie question: Should I get both Logos 10 Fundamentals and also Verbum 10 Fundamentals?

Hi, everyone!

I'm a Catholic seminarian and am glad to be on this forum. Thank you all for the support you provide here.

I'm afraid my question is quite of the newbie type, I did search for similar questions on the forum but was not able to find any. So please forgive me if this is a question you get often here...

I've decided to learn how to use the Logos software to do Bible study, especially as I'll be beginning my theology studies next year. After watching some YouTube videos, I thought I'd start with Logos 10 Fundamentals and slowly upgrade later. But now I'm confused, because on searching for Logos 10 Fundamentals on the Logos store, Verbum 10 Fundamentals also showed up. My understanding is that Verbum is the Catholic version of the Logos software package.

So, is Verbum 10 Fundamentals an add-on to Logos 10 Fundamentals, or can I get started with Verbum 10 Fundamentals right away? Or are there any benefits to purchasing both?

My understanding is that Verbum is the Catholic version of the Logos software package.

This is correct. The actual differences in functionality are very minimal, though.

No.

Yes.

That depends on whether you like books from both. They share the functionality - very basic bible software stuff, they don't include the advanced feautures of higher packages - but have widely different lists of bibles and other books included. If you want those, it makes sense to buy both.

Logos Fundamentals has resources aimed at Protestant users. Verbum Fundamentals has resources for Catholic users. The Logos software program prioritizes Protestant resources over Catholic resources. The Verbum software program prioritizes Catholic resources over Protestant resources.

Verbum comes in different versions.

Verbum

Verbum Academic

Verbum Eastern Catholic

Verbum Ordinariate

I am using Verbum Academic. Each type of Verbum has it's own resources and they all work together.

Sometimes you will find a resource (book) is available in a bundle under Verbum Eastern Catholic for less money than your usual Verbum version. Buy that one, or you'll find that for $5.00 more you can buy a bundled resource that includes the book you want, but also includes resources you'd be interested in, buy that one.

They all work flawlessly together.

Just make sure the software program you install is for the Verbum group you prefer.

You can install standard Verbum and buy Verbum Eastern Catholic resources and when you search, you will get regular Verbum answers above Verbum Eastern and Verbum Ordinariate answers.

1) You will find that if you opt to purchase both packages, the price of the second will drop after purchasing the first. This is due to dynamic pricing, which ensures you never pay twice for the same product. In this case, most of the overlap would be features.

2) Logos is transitioning to a subscription model, which will allow you to access features without purchasing them. If, however, you are able to work your way up to purchasing the bronze package, this will allow you to subscribe at the "Premium" level at a discounted rate if you opt to do that in the future.

I noticed on the Logos 10 Fundamentals page that it specifically states dynamic pricing is not available. This is surprising to me; you don't see that very often. If this is true, I would be hesitant to recommend purchasing both products, as there will be overlap, money wasted on duplicate resources. Perhaps it would be better to save up for Logos 10 starter if you like the resources in Logos 10 Fundamentals. All of the resources in the lower packages are included in the higher packages, plus more. This way, you would receive dynamic pricing and thus would avoid spending money twice on the same resources.

This is true for any packages except the heaviliy subsidized Fundamentals, which are exempt from dynamic pricing.

One final thought: It's very possible that the Logos 10 packages as they exist today will only be purchasable for 10 more days. On Oct. 21st, there will be a major announcement related to the subscription, and product offerings will change. It's hard to say with certainly exactly what that will look like, but you can expect major changes in the near future from what you see today.

After doing some searching I understand that the Fundamentals package is available at $49 only for first-time users, and the price goes up to $100 if I have already made a purchase. So I suppose that if I wanted both resources, it would make sense to buy them both at the same time so that I can avail the one-time half-price offer.

One more clarification: if I opt to purchase both Logos 10 Fundamentals as well as Verbum 10 Fundamentals, will I end up with both Protestant and Catholic resources, bible versions, etc. accessible within the same application, or will I have two separate software applications installed on my computer with no interaction between the both?
