Logos Subscription - my choice

A little long, sorry....

I have been a customer for a very long time since Logos 4, I think. I am not a preacher, teacher, or theology student. Just a regular guy who likes to study God's word. Being a tech guy all my career, using Bible software (used QuickVerse and others before Logos) was a nerd thing for me. Between my wife and me, we have spent likely close to $8,000 to on Logos since I started using it and love the resources we have. We both had our own subscriptions. Crazy, I guess, but she was a children's minister for years, and I bought her the bronze package with some add-ons when she entered seminary after getting our kids into grade school. I bought my much smaller package after seeing how great it was. Fortunately, when she retired, Faithlife allowed us to combine our two libraries into one (thank you).

So, when the whole subscription thing came up, my initial reaction was quite negative. I am nearing retirement, after all. My negative reaction was first being driven by the thought I will eventually lose all my books. Second, by what I feared the cost might be.

I have read all the posts, articles, and watched many YouTube evangelists discuss it all. I know that for preachers, teachers, and students, it is much more a no-brainer than for a typical layperson. So, I prayed about it and reached a decision.

Last week or so, I pulled the trigger on the Premium subscription. With my existing Logos 10 package, I was offered a pretty good discount, and with the discount on the second year, I am getting it for less than $6 a month. I am pleased with the cost. I will point out that during my deliberations and prayer time, I realized I pay a lot more for subscriptions for entertainment, much of which contains things that either offend me or are something I refuse to watch. I've yet to be offended by Bible study ;-)

Anyway, I wanted to post my resolution to all this as I was gnashing my teeth about it all as well.

Good to hear. Half way through I thought you were resigning. 😂

Years ago when I first came across Logos by subscription I immediately looked at what I subscribed to already, and cancelled a few.  Best decision I ever made.

I think a fair number of people will be able to relate to your dilemma, to your analysis, to your decision, and to your mixed feelings about it all.

I can relate to everything, except a wife and retired. I started with L3, was extremely disappointed that L4 was 3 months down the line (at that time, they did not offer any consolation prizes for having just purchased and then been asked to upgrade (at least, I dont think they did). For me, that soured me, to this day, actually. When they first introduced subscriptions, I too was displeased. THEN they doubled the rates, which really ticked me off. And, like you, I had several easier, but lesser Bibles, that no longer worked, however. And, with double my lifetime earnings sunk into this "$400 package" I was pretty much sunk in. They made a sweet deal, to satisfy us that we could stay and keep the $99 rate, "forever" but, if we quit, even for a month, and came back, it'd go to the new rate. So, I thought about it. Wasnt happy that if something ever happened, I'd lose everything that wasnt purchased. But, at the same time, I'd pay $10-15/mo for HBO/Max, or Disney+ or whatever. Now, with 11 and this new package subscription deal, I'm not really sure where anything stands, except, it's a heck of a lot easier to navigate everything. That alone makes me feel a lot better over everything.
All that to say, I can def relate.
