Notes Feature: Minimizing formatting features

I have a small computer, with very little real-estate on my screen. The formatting features in the Note tab take up three lines of precious space. (See screen shot, top right.) If there were a way to minimize those three line to expand them only as needed, that would give me more space to write notes.
